Very low Vit. D question

Just found this forum and THANK GOD for that! Long story short, I have been having problems for years (about 15) and of course every Dr I have seen can't figure out what's wrong... Earlier this year I started with major leg pain and back pain, worse then normal. I have tarsal tunnel syndrome so figured that was where the pain was coming from. WRONG... Dr checked my Vit. D lvl and it was 6. Sooo took the Vit D for a few weeks and had stopped. He forgot to put refills on my script lol No, not mad... things do happen and he wasn't happy with himself at my last Dr appt. Anyhow, I'm back on the weekly dose of 50,000 a week. I take it on a Tuesday so my dreadful day is coming up. Honestly 3 days after I take it are pure hell. All I do is sleep and can barely get out of bed. Taking it makes me sooo much worse, as if I'm not bad enough. I can't tell you all the last time I have been able to function like a normal person. I try, but just walking from point a to b takes everything out of me. Muscles twitching and jumping, pins and needles constantly, tired, pain... It has gotten so bad my Dr finally put me on celexa because all I do is cry and have major mood swings. He also put me on Soma which doesn't work, I'm on vicoprofen which he says would help but it really hasn't a whole lot. He is sending me to a specialist about an hour away since he feels there is more going on then just the Vit D issue. But I guess my main question is. Is it normal to feel soooo much worse after taking the Vit D??? I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle. If I don't take it I won't get better but if I do take it I feel 100x's worse. Btw I'm on the Vit D again for 4 weeks now. I go back on Oct 26th to see if it's even upping my lvls. He says 6 is just way to low.

It's been awhile and one heck of a long road... I knew there was more to my issues then the Vit D. My Dr still wants me to see a Rheumatologist, but for now he's diagnosed me as having Polymyalgia rheumatica. I'm not holding my breath on if this is a final thing or not with all the pain I've been in the past few months lol I'm just hoping to see an end real, real soon of all this. I'm still taking my Vit D and going back for blood work soon. Yippeee yawhoo lol So much blood being taken my veins don't even wanna work anymore.

Hope everyone else is doing well and keep your heads up... we'll all be better one day :)

I concur with Blossum and feel pretty terrible myself. However with regard to vitamin D, I think it varies depending on your starting level of vitamin D, the dose of vitamin D you can tolerate. I'm continue to take vitamin D in the hope it will help me.

I can't answer how long until you feel better because I myself am no better yet since taking it. I do hear months... so we'll see. I have also felt so depressed to the point between constant pain and just always feeling so bad that death really didn't seem so bad. I of course never did anything but day after day after day... I know I cry some days thinking I can't take much more... BUT I can take all this and I will take it and I will get better sooner or later :)

I just thought I was crazy now I know it was all Vitamin D!!!  How long will it take me to feel better.  Last month I was actually planning to kill myself.  Imagine that!  Only reason I didnt was because of my son.  It's so sad really.  I lost the love of my life because I had become a different person and I chased him away.  How I wish that never happened.  It makes me so sad.  I want to get better and begin to feel alive again!

Well tomorrow is my dreadful day of taking the D. See how it goes this week. Ugh, not sure I'm ready for this at all. If it's the same as it has been I'm calling the Dr and telling them I'm switching to something else on my own. Also going to attempt getting myself to the store to find some magnesium and possibly calcium. It does seem like it's just too much D at one time and my body can't handle it. Only way I can describe it.

Thanks much guys :) I'll for sure let you all know how it goes.

Totally agree with Bisan above I experienced palpitations, muscle aches, frequent urination etc (see package insert) with high dose vitamin D. In addition to lowering my dose, I also take it 3 times a day (1000 IUs each dose) to try to maintain a steady state and always take it with a meal that includes a fat. I too hope this helps -- Good Luck and Welcome to the Forum, Phyllis

Yes vitamin D could make you feel worse,Sleepy,Moody, itchy, etc.
What really happen is high doses of vitamin D increase the body's need for magnesium,So you should take magnesium along with vitamin D and try to lower your vitamin d dose.

Hope This Helps
