My husband just received his 2nd pneumonia shot 'by accident', 2.5 months after receiving his initial inoculation.  By the next morning, his arm was swollen down to his elbow and very red and painful.  His doctor was horrified yesterday (day after shot) and had him take Benadryl, Ibuprofen and apply lots of ice.  Today he received an IV antiobiotic and will get more tomorrow and find out what it is.  The say he may have cellulitis.  We both believe that his reaction is due to getting a 2nd dose so soon after the first and we hope that he does not have any lasting issues such as an impaired elbow joint, from this.

What happened in the long run? My 5 yr old got the same vaccine within 1 month of each other by mistake. I'm so nervous what can happen. Please respond ASAP. Thanks

There should be no ill effects other than soreness in the arm where it was given. The guidelines say for those needing more than one Pneumonia vaccination, there should be at least five years between them. Most are given 10 years later.
