A hypertension expert, Dr. William Elliott did a study with 108 people to see if there was a link between heart disease and ear lobe creases (one or both ears). This was over 20 years ago and the study ran for 8 years which concluded if you had creases, you were more likely to die from heart disease. There was no idea how the link could be related, but Dr. William Elliott believed the lack of elastin produced both hardening of the arteries and creases.
Strangely enough, many trials have since shown the same kind of results, even using 1000 patients. Of the 373 people WITH creases, 275 had heart disease and 98 did not. Of the 627 people WITHOUT creases, 101 had disease and 526 did not.
There is no scientific evidence to prove a link but further investigation is going on.
I recently learned that a crease on the earlobe has been linked to heart disease. My son was born with creases on both ear lobes. We do have a history of heart disease in our family. Has there been any link in children with this to later heart disease? Should I have my son checked by his pediatrician?
Oh, I trod on a lot of cracks in the ground today and guess what
My back is just fine.
I have a large crease on my left earlobe caused by flying through a glass door at the age of 11. Maybe if I walk under a few ladders and get some black cats to cross my path, my heart will go back to normal.
This topic comes up every now and then and really, there's no solid medical evidence connecting the two. I have a slight crease on my left earlobe now but that's probably because I'm old and I tend to sleep on my left side. Heck, my whole face is getting "creases." LOL
