Yes I can understand that .Yne good thing is you know and they know .I have let my 18 yearold know since she was 12 or 13 that addiction runs in both sides of her family .She really has listened and so far she has stayed away from it all she has said she does not want to take the risk .So knowing at least can prepare for what might come

MY KIDS GOT IT BAD ! ! !

my dad's father was a heroin addict...died at 63...still going every morning for his methadone.  all 6 of his brother's were either drunks or addicted to other drugs.

my dad's brother was a recovering alcoholic

my mother's mother was a raging alcoholic...died young in an institution.

my mother's sister is an alcoholic.

the boy's grandfather (paternal) is an alcoholic.
father's brother is a recovering addict

there have been several cousins of mine that have either abused or been addicted to most everything out there.

i worry that my son and his wife will have trouble with their unborn daughter.  they are BOTH recovering addicts and even she has a history of addiction in her family...dad is an active alcoholic, grandmother and a few uncles are alcoholics.

My mother and father never ever drank. My father never drank, swore, played cards, smoked or did anything that might give him any pleasure. Of course, after finding a kilo of pot in my room, and three detox/rehabs they still never believed I was an alcoholic/addict and refused to talk about it. My mother's brother was a traveling salesman and drink and drugged his way back and forth across Michigan. But absolutely no one would believe he was. His dying words to my aunt were "get me my stash of PILLS NOW!!" Really.

no one in my immediate family is an addict or an alcoholic..my grand mother whom I loved dearly was a big drinker til I waslike 16 or so..and she stopped..never drank a drop after...my parents do not drink a drop as my dad says his dad was a drinker but I never met him...my moms dad was a good looking guy/voted so in college and highschool/best looking guy stuff!..he was killed overseas when she was 9 but was sposedly a party animal and killed during the war after going to a bar on an island and robbed/then left on a railroad track to cover up the fact he was murdered with a machete
When i was like 12, my mom dropped me off at my g-mas house/my moms mother..BAM I called her...she sat there and let me drink beer and told me to tell her when I felt funny..after 6 i said "I feel funnY"  she told me if I ever went out with a man..to always know I could not drink  more than 6 beers

My mom woulda killed her

mother is a dry alcoholic...would drink if she still could...but she's in a home now and they wont let her. her brother, my uncle, I believe is an addict (crack and alcohol) and his wife is most likely addicted to gambling. My moms sisters are all enablers...in fact I refer to them as Aunt Worry, Aunt Enable, and Aunt Control...LOL (sadly, Aunt Worry passed last year from cancer...she was the youngest and never touched a drug in her life and I think I've seen her have a drink maybe twice in my life!)
I've heard that my maternal grandmother was quite the drinker as well...

I have no idea about my fathers side, as I never met him.

My dad is an alcoholic with 27 years sobriety, hasn't touched a drink since I was 13.My husband is also a recovering alcoholic.I also have 2 cousins, who I was never really close too, who are recovering addicts. One of them spent 4 years in prison for dealing and the other one lost his wife because of a drug deal gone wrong. He came home one day to find his house on fire and his wife inside. She had been shot to death and whoever did it set the fire to try and cover it up.
