Tramadol Addiction

I have been taking tramadol for three and a half years for a severe case of restless leg syndrome. It has always worked well for the rls symptoms. My problem is I am now taking 400mg a day and the medication is no longer working. I tried tapering and the rls was raging I couldn't sleep or work. At this point I don't know what to do. My doctor wanted me to try Norco but I feel I would be in the same boat. I am an alcoholic with twenty nine years of sobriety. I am trying to find someone who has experienced this problem and might have some answers for me. I hate the idea of having to deal with the rls again.

A very slow taper is the best way to get off of tram ...Narco is just going to transfer the problem from one drug to another as you know.Try droping one pill a week this should give your body time to adjust between each drop if a week is not long enough try 10 days .
I have been threw the h ell of tram wd .Slower the taper the better.you can do it its hard to get off tram but it can be done i did it two years ago.

Norco is a horrible idea, especially for an addict of any kind.  I would stay away from the Benzo's as well...I have noticed that it is another medication often prescribed for RLS.  Perhaps ask your doctor if there is something that is non-habit forming?  Has your doctor discussed possibly taking an anticonvulsant?

A very slow taper plus an alternative medication for the RLS (pref. non-narcotic) will be your best bet to get off of the Tramadol.

Here is a link that might help with your RLS:

Good luck!
