Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
A pulse heard in the ear could be due to blood flowing in the carotid artery. This major blood vessel flows very close to ear drum. In narrowing of artery, high blood pressure, clots in the artery, where the blood flows against some resistance this pulse is felt more.
The other possibility is that what you have is tinnitus. Tinnitus is the sensation of a sound in the ear or head that is not being produced by an external source.
Exposure to loud noise at work may also cause tinnitus.
Other possible causes of tinnitus can come from your ear, auditory nerve (which carries signals from your inner ear to your brain), infections, side-effects of medicines you have taken and because of problems with your jaw or teeth. These include: Ménière's disease, otosclerosis, acoustic neuroma and TMJ.
Your doctor will take into account all of your symptoms and may perform blood tests and various tests of your hearing, balance and co-ordination. You would need to see an ENT specialist.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I would get to an ENT pronto. They might even want to order a special scan to look for an acoustic neuroma.
