Life expectancy

My mom has been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. The cancer has spread to the lymph nodes but not to other organs. She is 91 years old. My question is twofold. They recomend radiation therapy. Will this help to improve her quality of life and perhaps extend her life, and I would like to know realistically what her life expectancy is with this diagnosis.

This discussion is related to esophageal cancer life expectancy.

Only her doctor can give you an idea of what her life expectancy is.  For me, I think it's about quality of life.  I don't know if I'd put her through radiation at her age.  This is a very personal thing, but I feel very strongly about this.  I've known many much younger people who endured all the chemo and radiation for cancer, only to still die from the cancer.  So what life they had left was spent being miserably sick.  It's a big decision for you.  Take care....
