Making your own baby food

This was mentioned on another post, but I thought I'd start a new thread on it...
I am very interested in making at least some of Cooper's food.  Never really did it before and want to try it.  I've got the little containers to freeze it in.  So far, I have just done carrots; boiled them and pureed them in the blender.  Three carrots made about 8 servings.  I am planning to make some apples for him this weekend.

My question is, Who has made their own baby food?  What kind?  And, most importnantly, how?

I don't think a blender was the most effecient way, either, since it was hard to get all the food out.  Any other ideas??

THanks!!

Oooh, good idea!  I had already decided I wasn't gonna mess with apples again. = )  The big jar will be perfect, as myself and the older kids can eat it too!  Thanks!

Just a little tip I got from my pediatrician....buy the big jar (from the regular adult aisle) of All Natural Apple Sauce (no sugar or anything) and it will last a while for the little one.  It's much cheaper than the babyfood and its easier than trying to strain an apple on your own.  Just thought I would throw it out there.  I have done it and Cash loves it!!

Well, I've done a couple more things now: applesauce and pears.  Both in the blender.  The apples were a pain, I had to mash them thru a strainer to make sure there were no chunks.  I thought I would have to do the same with the pears but I didn't, they came out really fine.
So far, Cooper likes everything he's eaten, store-bought or homemade, but the pears are a favorite! = )

I am now planning on making my own baby food as well.  I don't know exactly how yet, but I will find out and try to post it.  I have a friend who is doing it.  It's good for your baby and much cheaper as well.  Probably tastes better for them too :)

Hey girls,
Im also planning to prepare my own baby food as Iv read that the packed stuff is not really healthy! Im planning to give Kisori lentils water, stewed apple, mashed banana(the small one),mashed papaya.Later on some mashed rice mixed with lentils, oat porridge. Iv been told that a big piece of carrot is good for kids to chew on while they are teething.babies like the taste of carrot juice and it keeps them healthy during teething.
