I had three teeth prepped for crowns 7 weeks ago and am still suffering from a numb tongue on the right side.  According to my dentist the numbness of the tongue was due to the lingual nerve being injured while the novacane was being administered.  He claims it will go away in time.  I've heard from others, my brother being one of them, that said their numbness went away after months not weeks of suffering with the condition and in my brother's case it was a year and a half.  I want it gone because it's so irritating not being able to taste anything.  I'm just glad it doesn't affect my speech.

I had all my 4 wisdom teeth extracted 6 weeks ago. The right side of my tongue is numb. I feel some tingling and burning sensation at the tip of my tongue and bottom also. My tongue on the right side feels very sensitive to hot or spicy food. I also had pain running down my chin to the ear until 2 weeks ago if I had to do lot of speaking continuously. Now that pain seems to be better. But the tongue is still numb. The dentist has asked me to wait and take some B complex vitamins. Anyone who has recovered from this problem?

I had a root canal a month ago and the top surface of my tongue feels void of feeling..
or like just the top layer is numb.  However, certain foods make it burn like it is more sensitive...
I can't understand it.  Cold feels good, but hot stings.  I am frustrated and cannot taste as well
either.  I remember the shooting pain all down the side of my tongue right to the tip when the
Doc put in the novacain... it was like it was going to burn right through my tongue and come out.
I have never experienced this before and have never been bothered by novacain.
Anyone experience and thing like this??

I had my removed like 6 weeks ago, cannot pronounce letter "s" properly, I have numbness and tingling in my half of my chin, cannot feel teeth 1-4, I had numbness in my tongue as well but just for few days.  At least I had to sign paper that if they remove it I will not go to court to them, they said that nerve was damaged and it could heal or it could be permanent. I think it is called paresthesia. Anyway having head aches since that 6 weeks, on paracetamol all the time and it seems I have to have another 2 wisdom done because getting gums infections. So after that I reckon I will have numbness in my chin, lower lips and probably half of the tongue. I expecting the worst right now, numbness for life. ;-(

hi there - you should go back to your dental surgeon. I had my wisdom tooth remover a year ago and I have no problem at all ;)
