Hi, I currently have a suprapubic cath and use sheats as well to stop incontinence. I have a neurogenic bladder due to neuropathy.
Right now I have the suprapubic due to a fistula between my prostate and rectum, otherwise I would self cath.

I have had to deal with the bladder spasms since about the age of 28 30. They have given me Buscopan which is only very mildly effective. I have also been on Indocid suposetories. They work well as long as I'm able to keep them in long enough. The problem that I have is the fact that the spasms give an urge simmilar to needing to have a bowel movement. At times it is difficult to distinguish between bladder spasms and bowel sensations.

For the last little while I have also been on Morphine tablets. They control pain involved but do little for the relief of bladder spasms.

I recently aquired an inexpensive TENS machine. This works by giving electrical pulses to the regions involved. If I catch the spasms early enough, the TENS machine does provide some relief. The best thing is a hot bath, however it is only very temporary.

Even using the numbing affect of Xylocaine gelly into the bladder does very little for relief.

It seems that bladder spasms are very difficult to control. Even with medications that I use for neurological pain, it does not seem to target the bladder. When we experience spasms we seem to tense up, only making things worse. During a hot bath I'm able to relax most of the muscles and sphyncters involved.

I'm sorry that I cannot give you a remedy to cope with this. I too would like to find something that is more effective.

All the best.

Ron

My father is experiencing horrible bladder spasms after having a stroke a month ago, and currently has a Foley catheter in place. I also bought a tens machine and have been placing the electrodes on his inner left ankle and the bottom of his left foot, but was wondering where you place your electrodes when you use your tens machine? In my research I found that the ankle and foot placement stimulates the tibial nerve which directly links to the bladder and is supposed to provide relief. But if you place your electrodes in a different area I would love to know more details. Thanks!
