Is uteran cancer related at all to ovarian cysts?

Hi All,

My mom had uteran cancer when she was about 30 and had a full hysterectomy and is doing fine. I am 42 and have just been diagnosed with a 4 cm (and growing) ovarian cyst. Is there any correlation between the two? Should any special precautions be taken due to the fact that she had uteran cancer?

I'm waiting for a call from my doctor, but usually, his style is very laid back and I have a feeling he will opt not to offer surgery. However, that scares me a little because the cyst has grown .2 cm since March 8. It was discovered in December.

Lastly, have any of you with ovarian cysts experienced extreme nausea? I have had horrible nausea for about three months now...the same amount of time I've had the cyst. Are these related?

Thank you and bless you all for a healthy and quick recovery!

I forgot to say that if you're experiencing nausea is because your ovaries are not working properly; therefore, your hormones are not functioning properly.  They are able to determine this by doing blood work and an ultrasound to see how well each ovary is producing your homrmones as well as the size of the ovaries.  As soon as they removed my ovaries, I started feeling so sick, nauseous, with a fever like body, headaches, etc. so after a week that I had surgery, dr. put me on hormone therapy pills and my body is still trying to get adjusted to the changes but I am determined to fight and get better.  AT least I know the cysts are not growing anymore because they're now gone.  Best of luck!

Hi, the had found a 2cm cyst in my left ovary.  Due to my mom's history and her sisters of ovarian cancer, dr. adviced I have a histerectomy.  I am 43 years old and have one 16 yr old boy.  I opted for having the surgery to have the cyst biopsied.  They not only found one but 4 alltogether.  My susrgery was on 12/18/09 and I'm still recovering.  I'm back to work after being out for 2 months.  I opted for the total histerectomy and I'm now on hormones called Estriadol since the minute you get your ovaries taken out, you go into menopause.  I would advise you to tal to your dr about your family history and not only remove one ovarie both both.  Due to multiple uterine fibroids, I had had a partial histerectomy in 1998 when they only took out my uterus and see, now I had to go back and make a decision to get ovaries removed.  If I had made the choice of only taking one ovary out, the other would have stayed with cysts inside and another surgery would have necessary.  The biopsies came back negative for cancer but with my family history they're watching everything including calcifications in my breasts.  Please consider all your options and good luck to you.

You are very good at taking care of yourself.  I'm not sure your mother's cancer is related to OVCA.  Despite what your mother had, you still need to proactive taking your cyst seriously which you already did.  I would suggest calling your dr about the result and push for a parascopy(spelling).  Nausea can be cause by cyst, also can mean so many others. Do you feel bloated? feel full easily? any pain?
The best may see a GYN if you haven't do so.

Good Luck!
