hemorrhagic cyst

im a 22 year old female and was diagnosed with a hemorrhagic cyst on my left ovary about 2 months ago.It was 3cm. The doctor said that i should wait for 2 months or so to see if the cyst goes away on its own. Well its been 2 months now and the pain is still there. I feel bloated all the time and my stomach looks as though im pregnant. I also can still feel the bump where the cyst is and the pain is going into my thigh. Its limiting my physical activity as i can no longer run or exercise. Im a pre-school teacher and im constantly having to pick up children but now its very difficult for me. Im not sure if i should go back to the doctor yet or should i wait a little longer. im just afraid of it getting worse and having to have my entire ovary removed. Am i just being paranoid or should i have it checked out again? Also do you think that it would require surgery?

I'm sorry to hear that you're in so much pain.  Generally, cysts in younger women tend to resolve themselves with monthly ovulation.  I'm not sure if this also applies to hemorrhagic cysts.  However, if the doctor said to wait 2 months to see what happens - and its been 2 months and you're feeling worse then I would definitely not wait any longer.  Call to see a doctor and have him do an ultrasound to see what is going on with the cyst.  You shouldn't have to keep waiting and stay in such pain.

Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.

The smell could be from the cyst, but typically cysts mess with your cycles very badly and women generally don't bleed at all before it is operated on or regulates itself. I was recently diagnosed with a hemorraghic cyst after I had missed my period for almost 3 months, when I am normally very regular. A cyst is an infection and will make your white blood cell count go up, and therefore, being an infection, could cause a foul smell as if you have a vaginal infection. (Such as a uti or yeast infecion, which you could have as well and should ask your doctor.)

If you are still experiencing pain and they told you to go back in 2 months, and that's how long it's been, then you need to go back and get it checked on. It could be growing, which will cause worse pain than when it started, and is also not a good thing. Hemorraghic cysts shouldn't become more than 5cm, and even at 2cm can cause much discomfort. Or, your pain could be the cyst regulating itself or it may have burst. Either will still cause pain for a while after because there is still fluid in your ovary, which irritates it.

If your bleeding just started within the last couple of days, then I would say the cyst probably is gone now, but the best way to know is to go back to your doctor.

I am a 25 y/o mommy of 1 and wife and after not having my period for nearly 3 months and some tenderness on my left, they found the h. cyst in my left ovary, I had a bit of bad pain for a day or so and then noticed a diminished amount of pain and tenderness on my left (where the cyst was/is), followed by a period (finally) and now am cramping pretty bad and having some bad clots, because of the cyst. I have an appointment for another u/s in 2 months to make sure the cyst went away and didn't grow, and now am sure they won't find a thing. Except maybe a baby by that time as my hubby and I are trying to concieve #2, and this whole thing threw a huge monkey wrench in things.

I also found out that almost all women will get at least one h. cyst in their child-bearing years.

Best advice is to see your doctor and get checked out. Sorry this was so long, but I have really gotten into researching this subject since finding out about my own cyst.

Let us know how it goes and good luck!

Hi,
I have been diagnosed with hemorrhagic cyst and I have been on medication since a week now. Since a month I was having severe lower back pain and I thought it was maybe simple back pain. Can it be due to the cyst? Before one week i had severe lower abdomen pain and then i was diagnosed with the cyst.
I also did some back exercises a day before and now again my back has started to hurt.
Are these the symptoms of hemorrhagic cyst?
Please help.
Thanks.

HI and welcome to the forum.  I'm sorry you are going through this at such a young age.  Sometimes hemorrhagic cysts will resolve on their own.  I have researched this because they thought that I may have that type of cyst, but are uncertain now.  In my researched I learned that these types of cysts usually do not get any larger than 3cm.  If they get bigger than that they usually do not resolve on their own and have to be removed.  Your best bet is to see your gynecologist and ask for a transvaginal ultrasound.  If  you can get this done before your appointment, he/she will hopefully have your results by the time of your appointment.  You have to be an advocate for yourself because you know you body better than anyone.  If something feels wrong, it usually is.  Don't let this go any longer.  Keep in mind that the squeaky wheel gets the oil.  Good luck and please keep us updated on how you are doing.
