I'm 31 and have had this issue since I was a child. Every now and then the very tip of my tongue will become extremely itchy. It gets so bad I've found myself cutting my tongue with sharp objects until the pain overwhelms the itch. What's weird is that if I apply an anesthetic such as Anbesol, I still "feel" the itch despite losing all over sensation in my tongue, as if the itch was psychological. My working hypothesis though is that its triggered by certain foods
You know pineapple may trigger something like this ..I believe its the enzymes., let us know what happens
It is likely oral allergy syndrome (OAS). I have had this terrible affliction since childhood and it is ugly, indeed. I have it right now, a horribly itchy and painful tip of my tongue that tingles for days. I think it's from eating pineapple for the last couple of days, while getting over a virus. There is a connection between protein in certain fruits and vegetables, allergies and other immune system issues. So, even though I am not normally sensitive to pineapple, there is likely a connection between the state of my immune system (while trying to get over a flu) and the fruit. Good luck to all of you who suffer from this or have loved ones who do.
It may be something he is drinking or eating, or toothpaste, there is something called geographic tongue , no treatment for it ..is his tongue discolored?
Did you ever find out what was causing your sons tongue itches. I am having problem with my son for 2 years and no one can help.
I used to get that as a child, and I hated it. I used to call it the "Tongue Tingles," and I remember suffering with it from possibly first grade through about third grade. The only thing i can suggest is to put him on a really good multi-vitamin, just in case a vitamin deficiency is a trigger.
