Ask for a hida scan from a GI doctor. This test can tell the percentage that your gallbladder is functioning . Usually anything below 30% gets you a referral to a surgeon for removal. If you have no stones then you have what is called biliary dyskinesia. There have been cases that are helped by removal of the gallbladder. Not every case will get better but some. The odds are better if symptoms are reproduced during the CCK injection part of the test. Try eating very low fat ( no red meat, fried or fatty foods) to help cause less pain until you see a doc.
I am going through the same thing right now. I have pain in my right rib cage area and everytime I eat I have severe pressure under my sternum and the pain on the right side radiates to inbetween my shoulderblades. Saw doctor on Friday and was sent for an ultrasound and blood work. Do not have any official results yet but the tech said she did not see any stones. I go back on tuesday so I guess I will know more then. And then to top it off today I found an firm oval shaped lump about the size of a walnut on my left rib cage.
I would definately think a non function gallbladder could cause these symptoms at least by what other people on here say. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.
