You may have already read this but if not, you may want to check it out.  I didn't know what Crohns Disease was.  I think that may be what my sister-in-law has.

The surgery yesterday appears to be a success!!  I was able to put on my own socks this morning and “sat” down to eat breakfast!!  :-)

I’m feeling really god about the whole thing, I’m sore where he was digging around to get me fixed, but other than that I feel great.  It’s been a long 2 years!!

Thanks for your concern!!

Thanks Marv for sharing the additional information. I will be thinking of you, especially on the 26th and hoping that everything goes well.

I do know how very difficult it is to "lay around." I am not retirement age but I was forced to give up my career a few years ago due to this horrid chronic pain. Like you I was a workaholic. I lived to work and loved my career. The adjustment process has been difficult. But we do what we must.

As long as resting eases your pain than do so. I'm sorry that no medication has touched you pain. At least your surgical date is fast approaching. Hopefully after the procedure you will be as good as new.

Take Care,

I'm sorry that I'm late to the Party - BUT I wanted to let you know that I'm SO VERY Happy that you have received HOPE at last from a Doctor!!  I'm so very sorry that it took them such a long time to figure it out BUT I'm glad that you found a Doctor that FINALLY kept looking UNTIL they discovered what was causing the pain.

I'll be waiting, RIGHT along with Tuck and Jaded and everyone else for the updates on your Surgery!!!

Wishing you the VERY BEST of Luck on the 26th.........Sherry  :)

The surgeon didn't offer anything to control the pain.  I've tried a lot of different medications and nothing takes the pain away.  The best thing I've found is to lay flat on my back and don't move, then the pain is tolerable.

I do have surgery scheduled for the 26th so it isn't too far off.  The hardest part for me is just laying around doing nothing.  I've never had to do this my whole life.  The longest I ever laid around was a couple days.  I worked 31 years and never missed a day of work.  :-)

I used to be a work-aholic but have learned to take it easy now that I'm retired.

The surgeon did show me on the MRI when he thinks the nerve is being pinched, I don't understand it all.

Thanks!!

Bravo! Wonderful News! And thank you so much for sharing it with us!

I am so very happy that you have found a physician that is willing to help. There is light at the end of the tunnel. 80% is better odds than you have had and I too would agree to the surgery.

I am so sorry that your pain has increased and is so extreme. Was the surgeon able to offer anything to control the pain until your surgical date? And do you have a date yet?

May I ask what the surgeon thought was the cause of your pain?

Wow, this is so encouraging...it is true that there is hope!  It's great to hear good news.

Please keep in touch.

My Best to You,
~Tuck

Can I ask what type of surgery they are going to do?  I am always interested in hearing people's experience with different types of procedures as I am eventually going to get some sort of surgery, myself.
Don't dispair about the steroid shots not helping.  Many of our members have had steroid shots with mixed results.  What works for one person doesn't always work for another and this is very true with the steroid injections.
I hope the surgery will help ease your pain and hopefully "fix" the problem.  I'm sure it's awful not to be able to sit for 2 years.  I'm glad you got hauled to the Spine Institute it sounds like there's hope!

Yesterday Gaile "hauled" me in for an appointment with Dr Kuklo at the Colorado Spine Institute.   I think I finally found a doctor who is going to fix my pain in the ***!  Been flat on my back since Tuesday.   I'm scheduled for "Minimal Invasive Surgery" on the 26th.   He's 88% sure he can fix my  problem.  I don't know what a migraine feels like but I know I have a migraine in me hip.  Nothing takes away the pain. :-(  I've had 10 steroid shots in the last 2 years with no help at all.

I'm so sorry to hear about your awful pain.  I don't have any good advice or ideas as to what could help.  I just wanted to lend my support.  I understand your frustration.  I have been told different things about my condition from different doctors and sometimes I just want to give up.
I hope they are able to find something about your condition soon, and that you'll find a good treatment for the pain.
Have you tried medication therapy?  Sometimes that is the only thing that helps.

Yesterday was a very painful day, it's getting worse everyday now.  I used to go for a mile walk most days but yesterday it hurt with every step I took.  Now it hurts to stand, walk or sit.

I'm flat on my back in bed today, it's better than trying to get up.  I got an appointment with a Doctor at the Colorado Comprehensive Spine Institute for Friday.  The doctor I have been seeing is no vacation.

I will check into the OMT.  One of the problems we have where we live is, it's at least an hour drive one way to any doctor.

I'll let you know what I find out on Friday.  I'm not too hopeful after all the different doctors I've seen.

Marv,

Thanks for the additional information. It does sound like you have had everything done. It's a shame that with all the advance in medical science they still can't diagnosis your painful issue.

I assume you have also consulted a good DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) that practices OMT (Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy.) After all the many test I had and being told there was no cause for my pain (therefore I didn't have pain) it was a DO that diagnosed me and still treats me. I cannot sit for more than fifteen- twenty minutes, up from just a few. I cannot stand for very long. I walk, short distances better than I stand or sit. Laying is the only position that brings me releif on most days.

However with OMT I am able to function better and my pain is less. It is different than a chiropractor adjustment and I have much better results. If you haven't see one I suggest that it may be worth you time and trouble.

It must have been difficult to sell your bike. What a shame. Maybe when you will find a resolution to your extreme pain you can purchase another. We have to always have hope and you appear to have a very good attitude. Yes please keep looking. Some astute physician do some thinking outside the box. He'll put the pieces of the puzzle together and have an answer.

I'll be anxious to learn the results of your latest MRI. Maybe that will hold some clues. Sometimes it takes time before the problem actually shows on any test.

I'll look forward to hearing from you soon.

Peace,
~Tuck.

Thanks for the concern!  Yes I've had everything done that you suggested.  I've had injections in my Sacroiliac Joint, and not sure where all.  The last injection I had was in my Hip Joint with no relief at all.  My next injection is scheduled for the 19th in my L4-L5 area.

Yes, I have had 3 MRI's and X-Rays taken, the last MRI was last Thursday so I haven't found out the results of it.

I did go to the Colorado Spine Institute all last summer and they were pretty much baffled.  No one has been able the tell me where the pain is coming from.  I also had a nerve test with them.

The problem is I can't sit for any length if time.  When we travel I usually end up laying in the back seat while she drives.

I won't give up!!  I will keep trying until I find the cause!  I ended up selling our motorcycle last week because I haven't been able to ride for the last 2 years.

Thanks again for your concern!

Hi Marv,

I am so sorry to hear about your pain that has not responded to treatment. Have they determined the source of your hip pain?  Do you have a specific diagnosis?

It sounds like you have done all the right things. You must be so frustrated and you have my empathy.

Has anyone looked at your sacroiliac joint (SIJ). It's a long shot but it seems you tried everything else. My SIJ pain originally began as hip pain, at least that is where I felt the pain the worse. It wasn't until several years later when the pain seemed to "expand" and increased that I was finally diagnosed and proper treatment began.

I assume you have had a spinal MRI? If not I would request they take a "look." My pain never originated in my hip. It was just where I felt it.This is called referred pain. So if they consider that this may be referred pain it by looking for a source other than the obvious.

I understand that you have seen many physician. Have you been to a clinic affiliated with a large teaching hospital or to one of our nationally know clinics? It may take some thinking out of the box to find some solutions. Please don't give up. Keep searching.

Our members may have additional suggestions for you. Please feel free to ask additional questions or just post your concerns.  We are here for you.  I will look forward to hearing from you again.

Take Care,
~Tuck
