Hi. Your sed rate, ESR, is raised ,as it should be;in a man, under the age of 50yrs, less than 15mm/hr.
But, having a cold or flu can also bring this level up.
Why did you have this test done in the first place? There must have been a reason your dr did the test as it is not ususally ordered.
I would nt panic just yet but would have a repeat test done in a few weeks to see if it is still high.
If it is, then some investigation as to why it is raised should follow.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you have multiple joint pains and fibromyalgia then an ESR around 40 is expected. It merely indicates chronic inflammation. This needs to be further investigated.
Apart from fibromyalgia multiple joint pain is seen in hypothyroidism, low Vitamin D levels, Low Vit B12 levels, anemia, Hasimotos thyroiditis, gout (can sometimes cause multiple joint pain), rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, SLE, electrolyte disturbance particularly those involving calcium and magnesium, parathyroid gland problems, chondrocalcinosis and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Menopause or menopause like condition caused by PCOD is often associated with Vit D and calcium disturbances and hormonal disturbances causing multiple joint pain. Please talk to your doctor regarding these and get yourself examined accordingly. Hope this helps. Take care!

Hi ant67.
The ESR blood test is used when a patient presents with symptoms that suggest inflammation somewhere in the body.
The normal range for a woman, under the age of 50 years, is; less than 20mm per hour.
Yours is 43mm per hour, which suggests that there is inflammation in your body.
A dr would use these results to move forward in the direction that there is raised inflammation, and will do further tests to narrow the search down.
I hope this answered your question. Cath278.
