Nissen Fundoplication - pain

I need ideas for pain management in dealing with post fundoplication chest and esophageal pain.  I am 2 weeks post surgery and the pain is debilitating.

Thank you

I did have a post-op meeting with my Doc, and discussed these issues with him.  He offered Narcotics for pain which I simply don't wish to take (my responsibility). He wanted to do various procedures such as another Manometry, Barium swallow and CT's, all of which I have refused at this time.  I'm done with medical procedures for now, I simply need a break (1 major surgery each year for the past 6 years).  I do believe you are right that the pain is caused by the stomach itself spasming or contracting around the esophagus....I just wish it did not hurt so much.

What I need to learn I guess, is to find foods that produce less gas and reduce esophageal contractions, I was hoping for some natural pain relief options with this post.  :)

Theclansmom, call your doc and discuss the problem. Many people have discomfort after this form of surgery. In some cases the operation tightened things up a bit too much and it may need a bit of tweaking. The fact that the wrap pulls the esophagus into a 'longer' configuration than it is normally in can cause esophageal issues. In addition, the wrap can also cause some problems - at times - with muscular movement. Your doc needs to hear what's going on.

P.S.  No red meats....hormone-free chicken, eggs, turkey.  No breads.. breads have mycotoxins/yeast/sodium benzoate with a whole other list of chemicals!

Start by alkalizing...look up alkalizing foods.  For 6-10 weeks nothing but God's foods...no processed/canned/boxed/etc.  ...just fresh fruits/fresh vegetables.  Supplements:  food-based vitamins/minerals, calcium/mag, vitamin D, Flax oil (for omega's).  Health food store psyllium husk to detox colon.

Read my home profile.  What is causing esophogeal pain???....chemicals you are putting in your body.  Do you know what sucralose is and how many products it is in?  Do you know the 13 names of MSG and it's side effect?.....Do you know the dangers of microwaving?  Do you know autolyzed yeast in in hundreds of product?  Start watching every chemical you put in your body.  Then go to health store and buy pH test strips, refrigerated probiotics, aloe to calm inflammation, Wheat Grass to alkalize,   Search the top 10 detoxing foods.  You've got homework to do!
