What does the Bible say about pride?

There is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we feel about a job well done. The kind of pride that stems from self-righteousness is sin, and God hates it because it is a hindrance to seeking Him. Psalm 10:4 explains that the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” This kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the spirit of humility that God seeks: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3). The “poor in spirit” are those who recognize their utter spiritual bankruptcy and their inability to come to God aside from His divine grace. The proud, on the other hand, are so blinded by their pride that they think they have no need of God or, worse, that God should accept them as they are because they deserve His acceptance.

I am new to this group and am excited to join.  My journey of faith is just that.  A journey.  I believe truth is revealed to you as you are ready to hear and understand it.  I pray for greater understanding.  We can all read the bible but through God, we are able to get the true meaning intended as He wills us to.  

I agree that we can be proud of who we are in God's kingdom but if we start to place ourselves over others that are also on a journey, it may not be what God wants.   By this I do not mean to not share what we have learned.  But I think that with this sharing comes a responsibility to do it in a way that welcomes others verses making them feel less for where they are in their journey compared to yours.  I try to remember this myself.  

All I have to say though is I am very thankful that our Lord is forgiving when I ask because I make mistakes too numerous to mention.  It is hard to be a proud Christian on some days in which I've let God down.  (and by that I mean proud of myself.)

I often think of the simple bible story of the two who attended church.  The proud and loud member who went to the front row to be seen verses the quiet, humble member that sat in the back to quietly pray.  The bible makes clear which God prefers and it has nothing to do with where someone sits.  It is in the attitude.  One is humble and one is not.  

I try not to judge those I thought were prideful though.  As I most definitely have much to learn and must pray to have more of God's wisdom revealed to me--------  I would not think it right for me to judge any other Christian.  Like all things, we have to pray to do the right thing.  

Anyway, just my thoughts on the subject.  I look forward to learning from others here.
