Stereotactic Biopsy

I need a stereotactic breast biopsy.  Our local health center (Springfield, IL) charges about $4000.  I am willing to drive within 150 miles to do this at a better price.  Any ideas?

Wow... what a jump in cost since I had mine in 2007. I just took a glance at my medical paperwork; and my entire stereotactic procedure (minus the cost for the pathology) was $1204. Anyhow, my guess is that most facilities will likely charge close to the same... but,
I see no harm in making some calls to compare costs. Just make sure that you don't let the expense discourage you from having the procedure.

I'm not sure what you mean by your local health center ... more than one hospital is located in Springfield and I'm sure there must be a Breast Clinic there or other outpatient clinics with Radiology Departments. You do realize that if you travel out of town you might well need to see another Physician, possibly have more films at the new location and more than one trip during this process. Your Physician might not have privileges at another location out of the area. I doubt you would save much and I happen to think that money would NOT be the first consideration when one is dealing with the possibility of Breast Cancer. You might call around ... Peoria, Bloomington/Normal, Decatur, Pekin and any town with a Hospital .... this isn't like taking a prescription in to have it filled ... there has to be a Physician in attendance at the institution that has seen and examined you and ordered this procedure. If I were you I'd think this over again.    Good luck ......
