muchle pain

I am on a med for thyroid, called levothyroxine 50 mcg.  I have had nothing but pain since I started taking it...The top of my foot has pain constantly and both thumbs in the fatty part toward my wrist.  Now I have shoulder pain radiating down my arm  and can hardly sleep at night.  Tylonol doesn't touch it...  Is it due to my thyroid?  What is going on....my doctor seems unconcerned.  says my foot was tendiitious....My fingers also hurt and thought that to be artritius but maybe not.  HELP

I started with a "hyper thyroid storm" in July 2014.  Scared to death, out of state, waited to fly home to see my dr. and get some answers.  He put me on 50mcg Levothyroxin which took me into "hypo".  Last December "2015" right around Christmas, my middle finger on my left hand started to hurt.  Couldn't bump it or I'd go through the roof. It would bring tears to my eyes.  Six months later now, both hands hurt, my right wrist and my toes.  So frustrating!  Up to this point, I've been healthy with NO problems.  I have to get blood work again and will post as a comparison to others when I get my results.

Good Morning,

I am a recent member and I am Hypo due to Hashimotos. I would like to comment on the muscle pain. Before I was diagnosed with Hashi's my muscle  pain made it impossible for me to function let alone the Brain fog and all the other symptoms of a HPO thyroid. I had test to rule out Fibromialgis and RA.
After a little more than a year and med changes starting at 50mcg levo and no T3 (cytomel) to 112mcg and 25 cytomel I am doing very well. Hang in there and keep coming back to this site and you will feel better too.
More to come from people here when you post your  test results. Hopefully you will have gotten not just the TSH test which really only identifies that you have problems, but at least your Free T3 and T4 levels. It was explained to me this way:

"TSH should only be considered as an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms, and also levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4.  FT3 is the most important of your tests because FT3 largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions.  Studies have also shown that FT3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, while FT4 and TSH did not correlate."

Good Luck :-)

Cheryl

How long have you been on the 50 mcg levo?  There are no know side effects from Levothyroxine as the medication, itself, is the same as that produced by the body; however, some people have problems with the fillers in the pills.  You might try asking for a different medication (i.e. change to a brand name, such as synthroid).

You should also be aware that muscle pain/aches are symptoms of being hypothyroid.

Can you post your most recent thyroid blood test results, along with the reference ranges, so members can see where your levels are?  That would help us comment  more fully on your particular situation.
