episodes of sleep

I've been on Synthyroid for 20 years since the age of 19. After I had my last child I tried to get off it because I keep getting sick and was eventually diagnosed with Lupus. The dr. warned me to never do that again after blood tests he said were the worse he had ever seen from someone up and walking around.  Since that time the Lupus symptoms, with diet and exercise modification, have become minimal and don't bother me much at all. But, now, About every 4 to 6months I have an episode where I am so tired it feels like just breathing is an effort like running a marathon. My blood pressure drops to 80 to 90 something over 50- 60 something and I can not stay awake. Even if I do wake up I can hear what is going on around me but just don't have the energy to move. Some times before it happens I am very thirsty or have been dieting with success and have been feeling really good. I can sometimes head it off by taking a little extra synthyroid on the day I feel it coming on ( about 1/4 of a pill). It usually lasts for 8 to 24 hours. I am normally a very active person and do not like to be down like this. Is there anything else I can do to stop this?

This discussion is related to Synthroid causing severe dehydration symptoms?.

Posting my results means I would have to go back to the Dr. I think I'd rather chew off my arm. LOL. I think I am allergic to them. :) I just thought maybe there was someone else out there that had an issue like this. When I was pregnant they would tell me I was severly dehydrated, even when I was swollen and drinking water like a fish. Who knows,, I've lived with it this long. I guess that is just the way it is.

Next time I go I'll get the lab results. Thx for the info.

In the U.S. the doctor is required by law to give you a copy of the lab report, upon your request.

I know how you feel about the test results , I was not getting a copy of mine either. But this time I am going to. I think they have to give you the results.

It is always good to get copies of lab reports and write on there how you were feeling at the time and what meds/supplements you were taking.  This way you have a good record for future reference.  The doctors are required to give you a copy upon your request.  I really do suggest that you get the test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report and post here so that members can help interpret the adequacy of your testing and treatment.

gimel - They don't give me the results, just tell me if I'm in the acceptable range. I haven't told the Dr. about the BP or sleep times because they'll change my dose. For the first ten years they changed it about every 3 to 6 months. Felt Iike I was on a rollercoaster. I put a stop to that to try to get some kind of normal life. I told them NO MORE changes unless the levels were way off and I now get my dose .1 x 90 pills. It gives me some stabilty and far fewer migraines and other crazy symptoms. It has been much better for the last 10 years or so. Just when it hits,, it hits hard without much warning.

Trish - Had a nurse catch the bad BP once,,, she said it wasn't right but that they couldn't do much about it. I understand the tired and can handle that but the take down leaves me out of comission. :(

I think it sounds like your # might be off . Maybe you are under  prescribed. Check your tests results. i was feeling that way this week. The dr asking for another test . So I take that on Monday . My blookd pressure never gets that low . I know How you feel when you just don't have enough energy, but unfortunately this may happen from time to time. i have been dealing with no gland all my life .
