thyroidectomy and sweating, hot, I cant stand this!!

I dont know what to do. Its only been 5 days since my TT but I am so frustated and wish I never had this stupid thyroid diseaes or had to take out my dumb thyroid.

I cant sleep and I feel like I'm going crazy. I have cold feet and cold hands but I am sweating and feel like I am burning up inside...its not a "hot flash" (Im only 24) and from my understanding hot flashes last for a few to 30 mins and leave. This hot inferno feeling lasts for HOURS. I have taken 3 showers today. I dont sleep at night. I just sweat and I feel like I'm crawling out of my skin.

Is this because of the TT? Is it because m y thyroid is trying to locate hormones and realizes my thyroid is not there? Is it going to be like this forever???? Has anyone experienced this? How long does it take to go away? I have stuck myself in the freezer, I wear tank tops, I'm in MI and I look like its summer.

I CANT STAND THIS. I am SO HOT. I AM AFRAID THIS WILL NEVER GO AWAY AND I WILL BE DOOMED TO THIS HELL FOREVER. I am not working right now but if this doesnt go away, I dont know how Ill work. I can concentrate becaue I am so freaking HOT.

HELP PLEASE. I am so sad.

I had a good chuckle about Thyroidectomy and sweating....it's not menopause and I suffered something awful off and on for about a year until my Endo listened to my complaint I was on 112mcg synthyroid and I was having allergic reaction to this pill ...it was a nightmare and  I was menopausal 15 yrs prior to my thyroidectomy it was way worse.  When do you see your Endo? How much and what are you taking for your hormone?

I had a partial thyroidectomy performed in 2008 and it was cancer. I had the total thyroidectomy done about 2 weeks ago and I am having this hot feeling, week and dizziness from time to time. My sleeps in the nights are a "nightmare" as its very uncomfortable to sleep due to the excessive sweat, which I did not experience prior to the surgery.
I also have some heart palpitation from time to time and my GP had to change the BP medicine as well.

I had my thryoid removed a couple of years ago, and believed me, the sweating hasn't stopped.  Its quite embarrassing to have sweat soaked clothing from just minimal activity such as walking or just plain breathing. I'm burning up all the time, sweaters or any longed sleeved clothing have been removed from my wardrobe.

Sorry to hear about your Graves and the RAI.  I just wanted to say that life after doesn't have to be hell.  The most important thing for you to understand about and locate is a good thyroid doctor.  By that I mean one that will treat a hypo patient clinically, by testing and adjusting the biologically active thyroid hormones, which are Free T3 and Free T4 (not the same as Total T3 and Total T4), without being constrained by resultant TSH levels.  Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results.  Test results after RAI will be valuable mainly to track Free T3 and Free T4 as meds are adjusted to relieve symptoms.

You can get some good insight from this letter written by a good thyroid doctor for patients that he sometimes consults with from a distance.  The letter is then sent to the PCP of the patient to help guide treatment.

wow, just stumbled on this forum and thankful I did. I was just diagnosed with Graves disease (hyperthyroidism) and seems like many of the hypo and hyper symptoms are the same. The heat my body is putting out is something I would have never believed. You feel like your burning up from the inside out and can't do much of anything to make it stop. The sweating starts and it just begins to pour from my back, neck, stomach and under my breasts. Not only unbearable but makes it impossible to work outside the home. The sweat is so bad it makes sweat marks on the back and front of my shirt both. Going to bed and sleeping thru the night is only possible with the medication my Dr. has given me and that is a relaxer. I could not make it without it. I am just so frustrated because the next step in my treatment is supposed to be radioactive iodine to kill the thyroid. From what I am reading here not making me well but just creating a life time of this hell plus weight gain. With my hyper I can't gain weight and with they hypo you can't lose it. WHY are doctors not treating the underlying cause of this instead of just messing with the thyroid. This is a auto immune disease I have and want THAT treated but they seem to not know how to do that. I am so sorry anyone has to live with these conditions and only we can truly understand this nightmare. TREAT MY DISEASE not just my symptoms!! I want to keep my thyroid!

look up The Thyroid Cure by Medical Medium. He has great foods to help and then the ones to stay away from. Im trying to follow his ideas now to prevent having a TT. Reading all of these posts makes me dizzy with confusion on what to do.

I had a  complete thyroidectocy and dissection of ten lympnodes two weeks ago today. I am diagnosed with Thyroid cancer with involvement of all ten lympnodes. I will have radioactive iodine treatment in March.
I am on 200mcg of levothyroxin I do have a light case of hot flashes and occassional night sweats.

I would suggest to you who seem to be having an extreme reaction of night sweats, the heat in your body, and hot flashes, to go to another Dr. for a second opion. It really is best to do this for all things in life, so why not your health.  I don't think you should be having these extreme rections. And it seems that your thyroid subscription is too low. So, go get a second opion from another specialist.
Also try to look on the bright side, you could have another type of cancer that is incurable.

I'm so glad I found this site. So many things to talk about. I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. But my symptoms are closer to hypothyroidism. I have been going through the night sweats for weeks now. But it only lasts for about 5-10 min. Thought I was going through menopause!

I'm right there with ya girlfriend!  I had my TT three weeks ago today and since the surgery, I've been waking up in the mornings with drenched pj's.  I have my good days and I have bad ones.  I went back to work yesterday and was fine, but exhausted by the pm.  It was a struggle to get showered and go to work today...could be because I woke up at 2am sweating and crying for no reason?!  I've been told nothing can be done until the 6 week mark, when bloodwork will be done to check thyroid levels.  I'm just counting down the weeks and taking the good days when they come.  Thank goodness for this forum...It's great to know that I'm not the only one going through this stuff!  Hang in there!
