Does herpes cause weight lost?

My gastro doctor did mention that if the you have the herpes virus and it is very intense, it can cause you to loose weight?  However, he did not have any suggestions on how to stop the weight lost.  Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Hi thefreshman. I know this is an old post, but I wonder if you found a  good doctor and did you get an answer to your questions? I actually am experiencing the same problem as you stated, can you please fill me in?

Did anyone experience - not weight lost - but muscle lost specifically in the hip, buttock, and leg areas causing you to look very thin also with narrowing in the face, after a positive testing for HSV 1.  Whatever this infection is, I am continuing to lose inches and muscle around these areas.  I have been tested for every disease including HIV, but all these tests have been negative.  Any suggesting for a good doctor in the Chicagoland area?

No it sure won't. Wish it did!

Herpes is a skin condition, clearly nothing herpes related/internal that would cause gasto issues. Get a second opinion as to what's causing your weight loss.
