ANA test 1:80

Hello,
Six months ago, because of a hand rash, I made an ANA test which was 1:80 positive (FANA methode), and the anti-rnp was bordering 1:0, but the  U1-rnp was negative. The other results of a complete ANA test were also negative.(CCP, IgG-abs, ds-DNA-ab, chromatine abs, SS-A/Ro(60kD), La/SS-B, Sm (B'B/D), U1-RNP/SM, Scl-70, Jo-1/Histidyl-tRNA-Synthet., Ribosomal P-protein abs, c-ANCA, p-ANCA, Cardiolipin-Ig-(G/M/A), B2-glycoprot.-1-ab, Lupus-anticoagulant, MAK/TPO-abs - all negative).I made a check up now and the results for ANA remain the same (1:80), the anti-rnp is little over border line 1.1 (border line is 1.0) and U1-rnp is again negative. I do not know what could this mean? I have never taken drugs that induce positive ANA. The doctor tells me the results are overlapping results, but I am very concerned about the following: May it mean a begining of an autoimmune disease? I am not sure if it's not dangerous for me to be pregnant. Could first pregnancy mean progress to the eventual ANA test result or danger for the baby, I’m 40?In the last couple of weeks I feel very short and very tolerable pain in my palms and in my hand up to the elbows, but not in the elbows, could it be a sign of any autoimmune disease? Thanks very much indeed in advance to who ever answers me.

Thankyou very much respected Dr.Mathur. Does this mean that with a good therapy for hyperthiroidsm (on which I am already-Euthirox 5days-50mg, 2days-75mg) and the regulation of pituitary hormons the 1.5 RNP may "fall" to regulare titres? I made a MR of the thiroid gland which has normal proportions and no abnormalities.
Since I have yet no symptoms of the upper mentioned autoimmune diseases, does this mean that I am eventualy predisposed to developing one them and could pregnancy be a cause reason in addition?
Thank you very much indeed
Please receive my best regards as well as my profond respect

Hi!
Anti-RNP antibodies are raised in mixed connective tissue disease, and lupus erythematosus. So these two conditions should be looked into first. And yes, it is possible to test negative for Hashimoto’s (which is autoimmune under active thyroid) and yet have positive ANA. If this ANA is high due to thyroid gland, then it could be due to autoimmune hyperthyroidism as in Grave’s disease. Hope this helps! Take care!

Dr. Mathur can hiperthiroidsm cause the upper Ana/Ena picture, although results for Hashimoto are negative and my results of RNP have rised from 1.0, to 1.1 and now 1.5?
Thank you very much in advance

Hi!
ANA test can be positive without any cause, and sometimes remains positive as people age. Anti-RNP antibodies are raised in mixed connective tissue disease, and lupus erythematosus. However, since anti-U1 RNP antibodies is negative these two disorders are more or less ruled out. A sub-study of anti-RNP antibodies, SS-A (Ro) and SS-B (La), can be carried out to rule out Sjögren's syndrome. If you are pregnant, then you need to discuss this with a specialist in genetics. Do discuss this with your doctor. Take care!
