Antibiotics and HBV

Chronic hepatitis patients sometimes need to use antibiotics for unrelated infections and various surgical and dental procedures. Many are not sure about the possible harmful effects some antibiotics may cause their liver so below is a general guide:

I agree that we need to avoid antibiotics when is possible and this have to become o culture, and not only for us.

Hi there!

Yes, it is true that antibiotics may not be the best medications to be used with hepatitis of any kind, but may be required to tide over some acute infections. The best way to deal with such situations is to minimize their use, especially use of those that clear via the liver or are hepatotoxic (This holds good for other medications as well). It might also be worthwhile to run a culture and sensitivity wherever possible to avoid empirical use of antibiotics.
