breastfeeding right after delivery

Has anyone breastfed right after giving birth? I want to make that apart of my birthing experience and was wondering if anyone has done it?

I've breastfed all of mine straght away, and they obseve the baby then I dont  let them take my babies off me until I'm ready for a shower, sometimes 2-3 hrs after they're born, of course that depends on how bub is etc after the birth, I would put it in your birth plan that you would like skin to skin contact straight away and then bub should be interested in finding your breast :)

Well I don't know if you have to have a midwife where you are giving birth to get that. I'm sure it would help. It would be a great question to ask the hospital staff when you do the tour. Even if they can't answer it ...you will be able to tell from how they react if it is something they are used to.

That is awesome. Sounds like a great experience you had. I wonder if I can add that to my birth plan too. Do I have to have a midwife present to get away with that? My Dh is going to be my coach during my natural childbirth. i want very little to none intervention as well,

I picked my son up after he came out and rolled over to my back. He crawled to my breast right away. He was nursing before his cord even stopped pulsing. My midwives have a policy that nobody touches the baby for the first hour after the birth but the Mother. Even my husband had to wait. They still listened to his heart and looked him over but he was in my arms the whole time. I was lucky to have a birth that didn't require any interventions. I wish the same for all women.

I wasn't able to with my first child, she was taken to nicu immediately after birth. But I was able to pump and was encouraged to I'm order to help my body continue to contact to pass the placenta. This pregnancy is completely normal and as long as there are no surprises I plan to breast feed immediately after delivery. I have chosen to take a more natural approach to labor and delivery this time because my normal pregnancy has allowed it. I want to allow my body to do what nature has intended, this is what we were built for. The less invasive the quicker the recovery time and a healthier baby.

Yes I was. They handed to me right when she camr out. After they checked her out they gave her back she nursed for an hour!

@ mom2beagain I agree completely. I will make sure they put nothing in her mouth. I don't want her suffering from nipple confusion or not want to try breastfeeding because it's harder to do then bottle feed. I will wait a good 6 wks until bf is well established. @Ktowne- I would so be the same way about everyone else getting to see my baby before me. I don't blame you one bit.

I have, and it's great! When I had a c-section I had to wait an hour or two, but when I had a regular delivery I was able to nurse within 10 minutes, sometimes the babies don't suck right after they come out but still put the baby to the breast and they will get the hang of it after a little bit. I've had one baby take right too it and another one that had to try a few times before he got it. Be sure to tell your Dr. and the nurses that you plan to breastfeed, so they won't give your baby formula and it's also best to avoid pacifiers until your baby gets good at latching on. It was very disappointing to wake up 2 hours after delivery, but at that time it was best for him, so that's all I cared about, I made sure DH didn't let anyone hold him before I got to (I carried him for 9 months, he wasn't getting passed around before I got to see him!) I hope everything goes great for you! :)

Awesome, Yeah I try to keep an open mind in case I have any issues, but i know I will be hugely disappointed if I can't have it my way.

I wasn't able to, due to an emergency c-section that I didn't wake up from for 2 hours after he was born, but as soon as I woke up we were skin to skin, and I breastfed him, I'm trying natural and really hoping to breastfeed right after birth as well!
