mild trabeculation

my wife age 44 had this problem of passing urine with pain and sometimes very urgently, her sonography report showed significant post void residue (almost 50%).her problem started  a year back and more since last six montths.when we visited a urologist and after sonography reports he suggested a cystoscopy at the earliest.however a second opinion from a big institute suggested a MCU test before any cystoscopy.accdg. to this doctor there were no symptoms of stricture.the MCU test showed "mild trabeculations" and significant post void residue.kindly guide me to know about this situation?

Sorry to read of your wife's problems.  As I understand it, your wife is complaining of pain and urgency and is noted to have an increased PVR.  I would agree with the need for a cystoscopy and would expect the urologist to possible want to have urodynamics done.  This test looks at the bladder function and can help determine why she has an increased PVR.  Providing she does not have an obvious reason for her PVR, fallen bladder called a cystocele, a work up is necessary.  Bladder pain and urgency is often called Interstitial Cystitis of Painful Bladder syndrome. Trabeculations of the bladder are normal to some extent.  Cystoscopy will be helpful. Please see this link for more information regarding IC.  http://www.drjkm.com/interstitial-cystitis/
