female self catherization

I am new to self catherization, and am having a little trouble finding the right spot...I do use a mirror and a light, but there appears to be folds that trick me into knowing right where the urethra is. It also appears to be up and embedded. Does anyone else have this problem? I self cath because of a urethral stricture. Thanks for any advise.

Hi there!

The position of the urethral opening may vary slightly in individuals lying anywhere between the clitoris and the vaginal wall. For self-catheterization and avoidance of trauma, I would suggest keeping an idea of rough location of the urethra in your case. Gradually with experience you would get it in a single try.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!

I agree. I am awaiting surgery in May/June to corect my urethral stricture.  When I began self-catherization, I would become frustrating, sob hysterally, and not cath.  I got myself into a lot of trouble.  Over time, I have learned what works best for me.  Give it time.  I know it is stupid but maybe give yourself a reward when you are able to do it well - a cup of tea, a small positive reinforcement.  Best of luck.  I hope you are feeling better.
That's really great and comforting advise.  Glad you shared that!
