That is very interesting, and I appreciate your writing me about your findings. However, I am not sure if this is the same thing with me, because after reading in downgaze (without my glasses) or when simply being very tired without even reading, I see the shadow images with letters and nearer objects such as the computer monitor, my glass or mug, anything at all. Not far objects.
Maybe Dr. Hagen will have a comment about your findings?
Best wishes,
Nancy
P.S. When I picked up some new glasses recently (although I didn't have a new exam), they gave me a card with my prescription on it. I can write it out if you want--not that I understand it!
I could finally find out the cause of this phenomenon. This is related with accommodation but not of lenses. When I am using my eyes for near or mid vision then my pupil expand to cover a wider area and as soon as I see something far away then they should contract for crisp focus of the far objects. In my and probably your case what is happening is that after using near vision for some time when ever we try to focus on far objects then pupil do not contract as required thus causing ghost images. I verified this through an experiment, just after reading a book for 20 minutes I confirmed that I am having ghost images then I deliberately looked at a bright white lamp from a distance of 30 cm for 1 minutes so that my pupils contract then again when I saw at the far situated objects then everything remained normal for some time. This confirmed mu hypothesis. After that I used eye lubricating gel "refresh" and tried some cardio just to have more blood supply to the nerves controlling my pupil function. Recently I have come accross ayurvedic eyedrops which I am using regularly and they seem to resolve my problem quite a bit. These drops are called "Isotine", I dont know If you can get it there but it helps. Alternatively you need top ask your doctor to give something to improve your pupil function. One thing is for sure that this is not a problem of near vision associated with age which all doctors have diagnosed in my case.
Rgds
I will try to remember to see if I can find my prescription, but I don't know if it will do you much good... they are just reading glasses, I guess.
Hi there, I don't think that after all there is anything special about the glasses I was prescribed, just that they are strong reading glasses. I only remember that when the ophthalmologist wrote the Rx (this was years ago), he said that when I took it to the optician (to make the glasses), he would think they were bifocals, but they weren't.
I can tell you, however, that now, when I am tired or when I've been using my eyes a lot, the ghosting occurs and I have to squint even when using the glasses. Even when I haven't been reading in downgaze. The problem seems to be getting worse lately. Today it's bad and I have no idea why, I am not even tired and I've been wearing my glasses. Working on the computer a fair amount but no more than usual (now it is not just downgaze, though that certainly is worse). It's hotter weather today, but why would that make a difference? I have no idea.
Sorry I cannot be of more help. There really does not seem to be any firm explanation for this. All I can suggest is, have them give you a stronger prescription?
I am not surprised that if you showed my post to your doctors, they didn't "get it," because neither did my doctors. They had never heard of it. Even specialists. But I have sure seen a lot of people on this board complain about it.
I think I had better go and have my eyes checked and see if I need an even stronger prescription. I only went last year and my optometrist said I didn't need to come back for two years, but this is bothering me more and more.
Best of luck,
Nancy
