Do I need a uro gynecologist or a urologist?

62 yo.  hysterectomy 40 years ago.  uncontrollable urge to urinate, sometimes no output.  can go or feel the need over 30 times a day. no UTI.   Saw a urologist yesterday.  organs in the right place.  Stretched my urethra...ugh.    no better.  said I had a stenosis and atrophy of the urethra.  Gave me a script for Vesicare but told me to wait a few days to see how procedure goes.  also mentioned estrogen Creme.  I am miserable....what should I do?

I would suggest you see another urologist or a urogynecologist.  Urethral dilations are generally frowned upon theses days.  The treatment of urgency incontinence usually consist of Estrogen vaginal cream, avoidance of foods and drink that cause bladder irritation, urgency suppression techniques, and medication.  For those patients that do not respond to these therapies, other treatments, Tibial Nerve Stimulation, Interstim treatment, or Botox injections can be done.  J. thank you.  I am away from my home in Tampa, not planning on returning for another 2 weeks.  Should I start the Vesicare tonight or will it muddy the waters, so to speak.  I will see a urologist or a uro gynecologist upon my return.  I plan to make the appointment prior to arrival home.  Thanks.
