Diastolic dysfunction/echo results

Had mitral valve repair Dec 07 and things have been normal.  Had an echo Dec 2013 and my dr said "everything is the same, no change".  But here's the rpt that came a few days later::

Dec 2012 - IVSd  0.9   (0.6 - 1.1)                           Dec 2013 - 1.4
                  IVSs   1.3   (0.8 - 2.0)                                              2.2
                  PWd:   0.7  (0.6 - 1.1)                                              1.2
                  PWs    1.2  (0.8 - 2.0                                                2.1
                  LVMI     62g/m2 (50-95)                                          88g/m2
                  LVIDd   3.8 cm(3.7 -5.6)                                          3.0
                  LVIDs    1.8 cm (1.8 - 4.2)                                       1.4

                  2D EF  73%  (>50%)                                               56
                  3D  EF  70%                                                             58
                  E/A     1.28    (0.6 - 2)                                               1.0
                  RVIDd   1.3 (0.6 -2)                                                   1.8
                 Aorta(ed)   2.9                                                             2.6
                 PASP   28mmHg                                                         30 mmHg
                Atria LA (es)   2.9                                                         3.2
                Atria LA VI   17mL/m2  (16-28mL/m2)                        26.7 mL/m2
                AV PV        130 cm/sec                                                  NA

Those for 2012 are good, 2013 numbers are off the chart.

Why did my dr think this is normal?  Will the numbers get worse ?   Should I be worried that some abnormality will in the near future??

Mitral valve repair was for regurgitation.  My main concern is the echo numbers for 2013 went totally out-of-range from 2012's normal, especially PWd and Atria LA VI.  I'm a tiny person (5' even) at 100 lbs.   Based on its trend, I can see HF in the next few years.   If there's anything I can do to improve/preserve my heart function, I'll be glad to do it.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Hard to comment specifically on your echo.  Overall, it looks fine to me (both 2012 and 2013).  Did you have your mitral valve repaired because of "leakiness"?  Do you have any symptoms?

If you feel well, I would not be too concerned with the echo though you should never hesitate to discuss the details with your cardiologist directly.  Also, quality of echos at different places and my different people can vary widely unfortunately.

Best,

Dr. Rich
