Dry mouth

I have had dry mouth for years and frankly I am tired of it. I am wondering if anyone can help. I am on Armour Thyroid for Hypothyroidism, Pristiq for depression, Protonix for GERD and HRT. I know the Pristiq can cause it, but the dry mouth started years after I started the Pristiq. I just sent my doctor an email questioning whether Thyroid problems can cause dry mouth. Anyone have any ideas or answers? Thanks!

A dry mouth was one of the first symptoms that was really bothersome for me.  Then I noticed weight gain,  feeling cold, my skin was dry for years I thought that was because I was in memopause.  If you google thyroid diet, eliminating certain foods because they cause inflammation and it triggers the immune system to attack the thyroid.  Also limiting your exposure to toxins like harsh household cleaners, nail polish removers, pesticides, ect.  All the best to you!

I forgot to tell you, I was on Pristiq as well, I thought the dry mouth was from taking pristiq also.  I went off of pristiq and still had the dry mouth,  it actually got much worse because the thyroid was getting worse.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI,
Dry mouth can be a side effect of many drugs like Pristiq for depression. Smoking or chewing tobacco can affect saliva production and aggravate dry mouth. Continuously breathing with your mouth open can also contribute to the problem. It can be due to conditions that lead to dehydration, such as fever, excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhoea, blood loss, and burns can cause dry mouth. Dry mouth can be due to medical conditions like diabetes, thyroid problems, anaemia, cystic fibrosis.
Certain measures will help like- Drinking plenty of water to help keep your mouth moist. Sucking on sugar-free candy or chewing sugar-free gum. You can also use an over-the-counter artificial saliva substitute.
The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
