Throid Peroxidase (TPO) test question...

My wife had a test called;

ANTTA TPO Ab Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Ab

The results were 21.7 IU/mL

what does this mean she has? She has multiple symptoms that mimic many symptoms of Relapsing, Remitting Multiple Sclerosis as well as many of the symptoms of Lupus.

Her last spell lasted for almost 5 months and we really would like some direction. We do not yet have an Endochronologist, which is what the doctor that ordered the test suggested.

your input please...

As you await this boards Dr. to respond, I wanted to say that just yesterday I talked in detail to a women in my city at a gathering sponsored by our local newspaper and she told me the main test that diagnosis whether you have lupus, is called the ANA blood test and that is was inexpensive. As for your TPO one, mine always listed 35 as the upper limit, so it looks like that one was okay. Mine was much higher but I've heard on ones that can go very high yours didn't look high enough to be abnormal but may depend on your hospitals lab reference.
I know you'll get some good information on here.

Different labs have different reference ranges - 21.7 would be normal for some, high for others.  With the autoimmune history, would be suspicious for Hashimotos (autoimmune destruction of thyroid) - best to check TSH, free T4 & T3 -- if the TSH is greater than 3 (repeat to confirm) then a trial of thyroid hormone treatment may be worthwhile as I imagine her symptoms are multiple and non-specific and thyroid hormone is a fairly innocuous treatment.
