PET Scan

I had a TT which showed an fully encapsulated pap carcin less than 1cm and mestatisized pap carc in 1 out pf 9 lymph nodes removed and my endo has given me the option to postpone RAI (possibly indefinately pending monitoring results - ultrasounds & thyroglobulin levels).  My Endo never mentioned a PET scan.  Is a pet scan the normal protocol since I have not had RAI?  If so, when should I have it done?

PET is not going to add anything at this point.  There is debate about what to do here, but the ATA guidelines favor I-131 in the case of lymph node involvement and this is what I would do for a patient in this setting -- it makes it easier to follow Tg levels (and possibly ultrasound).
