Nicotine gum causing mouth mucus???

I recently quite smoking after 10-years of 1 Pack+/day use.  I have been chewing 4mg nicotine gum daily for the last 4 weeks to help with my cravings.

There have been a few days, after I have chewed maybe 10-12 pieces that day, where I experience a strange mucus like membrane on the inside of my mouth that seems to be seperating from my cheeks/lips.

I usually cant tell until after I have brushed my teeth and rinsed with Listerine. At first I thought it was dead skin (maybe from the nic gum?) but upon further review it appears to be white sputum.  Thought it might be skin because its is like little strands/films that are attached to the inside of my cheeks.

Not sure if the combo of chewing many pieces during the day, then brushing/listerine is causing my mucus membrane to deteriorate or what...  I am definitely not coughing as much as I thought I would be 4 weeks into quitting, so its not anything I am coughing up from my lungs.

Any ideas, its kinda freaking me out!?

The film you are referring to is probably caused by the toothpaste or the mouthwash if they have whitening agents in them.  I stopped using toothpaste and mouthwash with whitening agents and I no longer have the film on the inside of my mouth.
