BM Concerns

My little boy is 10 days old and he hasn't had a BM since 4 this morning...he's been eating more than normal and acts as if he's pushing since he scrunches his limbs up and pushes until he gets red in the face then cries and tries pushing again but nothing comes out but gas..he pees pretty much after every feeding but its been almost 20 hours since he's had a BM...any suggestions? Or am I being a worry-wart mom and this is normal? He doesn't like to be laid down horizontal like how he normally likes to be held, but instead only wants to be held up against mine or his dads chest with his legs tucked up underneath him and his head pretty much under our chins. Is he constipated or is it normal for him to only have one BM and the rest wet diapers?

Hello, I had this same problem with all of my children...What doctors told me to do was give a little apple juice with water..but I found that a little harsh on a new born baby...yes your little is constipated, but also is normal to only have a bm once a day..its all about monitoring honestly...Im on my fourth pregnancy and is a custom now to these stressful situations, but its manageable...I started reading everything natural, and what I came across is the benefits of coconut oil...Coconut oil has hundreds of uses on our health, and body..And is essential to all of my baby regiments..Its has great benefits for baby skin, great for baby hair and cradle cap, and great for constipation...I use a q-tip and dip in coconut oil and gently insert to help move the bm...it gives the baby soo much relief..You dont have to do every single diaper change, but best when you notice the straining from baby...Also keep in mind, these are all learning times for newborn, and so even pushing a bm is a learning experience, it will take time for them to push on their own sometimes...And another great tip, keep yourself as stress free aa possible..newborns sense a stressful environment, and that can cause constipation as well...I hope everything works out.

Thank you for the advice, I'll have to keep that in mind since I think I was just being overly worried since shortly after I posted this question he had two BMs both yellowish, seedy, and had a consistency of peanut butter.
Absorption of fecaltoxins is a hidden cause of much (most!) physical and mental health - so you're right toworry.  See a naturopath.
