Sudden blurred vision in 7 yr old

My 7 yr old granddaughter has been to three Ophthalmologists in the last two weeks in which no one can find answers.  She has sudden blurriness in both eyes. Can't see close up at all. With or without glasses, no vision change with any prescription.  Healthy eyes, can't find anything.  She is an avid little reader and can not read. The last dr, came VERY highly recommended, he also ran tests, pulled my daughter aside and said that sometimes we see children "fake it" at this age, she is NOT faking it, and in his 35 yrs has no idea what's going on, will research and get back to her.  He asked if she started any new meds, she has recently started Zantac OTC 75mg per her pediatric GI specialist at Riley Childrens Hospital for stomach issues.  We thought perhaps a side effect??  Her GI says she hasn't heard of that.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Well, this certainly sounds frustrating!  Here is what I would do ---  you have done due diligence and gotten her checked out x 3.  Nothing is showing.  So, go to a test period of plan B.  I'd stop the Zantac briefly to see if this is indeed involved and C. listen but do not give a lot of attention to the discussion of blurriness to see if the doctor is right.  If it is not so much faking but your granddaughter misinterpreting what is going on and then getting attention for it.  Now, I say that because if you ask a child if they are sick, doctors listen for code words because they often really can't describe adequately (avid reader with good vocabulary or not) what is going on.  To test his theory that she may be going with the worry over eye site rather than actually fully experiencing the extent of issues she is claiming---  test it by giving it no attention.  It can't hurt.  And then down the road, if she is at school . .. this is when you will know for sure.  They do eye tests.  In kids, the people that often end up making sure kids get glasses are teachers.  Keep in touch and let us know how it goes.
