I'm not sure why the distension and enlargement on the right side. It seems your doctor should have had some input on that. As far as the right ovarian cyst, most cysts are not problematic and resolve on their own, no intervention needed. Even when they continue growing and need to be removed, they are almost always benign. Yours is small so may very well go away within a few months or so. So monitoring via ultrasound would be the typical recommendation. If it does continue growing and needs to be surgically removed, it's best to have just the cyst removed (cystectomy). Far too many women lose an ovary or ovaries unnecessarily because cystectomy is a more delicate and time-consuming surgery and I've read that it does not pay any better then ovary removal (oophorectomy). However, we need all our parts our whole lives. Removal of any part of our "reproductive" system has been shown to do more harm than good since they have lifelong functions - anatomical, sexual and hormonal / endocrine. 90+% of female organ removal surgeries are unnecessary.
I hope this helps!
