I keep dreaming about my crush every once in a while ..but why?

I really liked this guy but he was 10 yrs older than me. He was extremely flirty all the time but I liked the attention he gave me. I hadn't  had a boyfriend before. But when I thought he liked me he would then kinda flirt with other girls too. He claims he was only joking. He would tell me alot of thinfs thatwere happening to him. Then he say stuff like your always there for me etc. I think i fell hard for this guy. Then all of a sudden just talking he saiy like im not ready for a relationship. But he was so touchy & flirty with me to the point all of our friends thought we were together. He was divorced with 2 kids. Then fast forward one day he just stopped talking to our group of friends. I tried contacting him multiple time & he did reply a few times. Even in one of those messages saying he loved me very much & appreciated the way I am. But now he never messaged/called me nothing at all. Its been a yr now. I still cant get over him I dream about him skmetimes where he tells me he loves me or kisses me. I think he hurt me so much & made me feel like the stupidest person ever. Like Ibwasnt good enough for him. I dont know if I keep dreaming about him cuz it hurts or it was something "unfinished". I honestly havent shared this with anyone because it hurts & i feel embarrassed.

hit submit before ready, sorry.  True story . . .   I had a massive crush on a guy my sophomore and junior  year of high school.  Oh, I really thought about him 24/7.  lol  I was so into him.  He flirted back.  We did not date or anything.  Years later when I was a senior in college, we ran into each other.  I was like "holy cow" and we went on one date.  I was so bored and not into him after an hour that it was hilarious to me that I'd spent SO much time and energy thinking about him.  So, crush interaction often doesn't tell the whole picture of someone.  good luck

Sorry, I think I missed this post a while back and believe it or not, just saw it!  So, the thing about crushes are that they are rarely based in true reality.  He probably got a girlfriend closer to his age or decided it was silly to mess around with someone so much younger and in a different part of their life (he's been married already, is a father, etc. ).  I would not take it personally.  Crushes are just an attraction of some sort.  They are often just one way but this sounds mutual.  However, it is what it is.  You miss it perhaps because there is no one else you are dating or having an infatuation with right now.
