Suturing needle pierced my skin, how much is chance to get infected?

Hello! I’m nurse and I was scratched by my patient’s suturing needle. I sutured the central venous catheter on the skin and was doing the node, I felt the something scratched me and saw the point of blood on the glove. I washed my hands with cold water and soap, then cleaned the area with antiseptics. The injured area was superficial. The patient has hepatitis C. Is there any chance to get infected?

Hep c is transmitted by blood to blood contact. To describe your risk it is said that a health care worker who experiences an accidental needle stick involving a patient with known hep c the risk of transmission is about 1.8%

I suggest you google Hepatitis C Questions and Answers for Health Professionals on the CDC website for more information.

Aren’t you required as a health care worker to have recurrent training in blood borne pathogens?
