Ovarian cyst, fluid in endometrial cavity, pelvic pain?

Hi! I am a 34yo with 3 kids. I have had a cyst ranging from 3.5cn to now 5.5cm for over 7 years. I had a miscarriage back in april and a d&c. We did not remove the cyst bc my family was leaving for disney the week after. Surgery is scheduled for next week. Upon us last week it was found my endometrial cavity had fluid in it and my lining was thick. They don't think they got everything in the first d&c from the miscarriage. Also the cyst is being called a simple cyst because on us it appears fluid filled with normal boundaries ect. My gyn is not at all concerned about cancer to my knowledge. However, I am a nervous wreck bc I know fluid is not normal. Also my right side has had so much pain (right pelvic area, right hip and leg, and right shoulder/neck). I do not have fsmily hx of ovarian cancer but my family carries the braca gene. I was tested and do not carry it. Am I being crazy worried over nothing?! Gyn thinks the pain could be endometriosis and will be doing exploratory surgery at the same time as cyst removal. Anyone in a similar boat??? I asked for a ca 125 and was told i dont need it.

So glad to hear your ovary was saved! The gas they pump you up with can cause excruciating shoulder and upper body pain. As far as the heart palps, that could be from (what should be) temporary hormonal upset or the drugs they gave you for surgery. Hoping these post-op effects don't last long and you'll soon be back to normal.

Another thing to consider... As far as possible endometriosis (endo), have you had symptoms of endo prior to this recent right side pain? Endo symptoms typically present well before your age. Did you by any chance have a c-section that could explain endo being a possibility? As far as exploratory surgery, tissue must be sent to pathology to definitively diagnose endo.

Yes! I did have very painful periods, pain during intercourse, and cramping at times not on period. But the right sided pain is newerish! And yes the dr will be sending anything he finds to pathology!

I am 1 day post surgery. My ovary was saved and cyst was removed! Surgery went well except they had a hard time getting my ovary to stop bleeding so it went a little longer than usual. I did end up with just 1 spot of endometriosis. The worst part has been pain in my right shoulder and down my right side! Its excruciating. Also I havent been able to sleep due to heart palpitations when I lie down.

Pain from cysts can vary so much from one woman to another but, yes, your right side pain could be from the cyst. But since you also have it in your hip, leg, neck and shoulder, it could be a pinched nerve.

I know tumor sounds ominous but it merely means an abnormal growth, benign or malignant. Most ovarian cysts and tumors are benign. Hopefully, your doctor has good cystectomy skills so that he/she can remove just the cyst... certainly worth discussing before signing the surgical consent form.

I'm sorry you had a miscarriage. :( I didn't think fluid in the uterus was generally concerning. Also, it can make the lining appear thicker than it is. How thick was your lining and at what point in your cycle was the u/s done? It's best to have one done 1 or 2 days after your period ends when your lining should be thinnest. You don't want to needlessly undergo a D&C as they can cause Asherman's Syndrome.

Most cysts go away on their own within a few months. Are you sure the 5.5cm cyst is the same one that was 3.5cm 7 years ago? Since it's fluid filled, it is probably a simple cyst as your doctor said and should resolve on its own. Surgery has risks and many women lose their ovary versus just the cyst. Removal of even one ovary has been shown to increase risk for health problems such as dementia and cognitive impairment. It can also impair fertility.

Women who do not have a genetic predisposition for ovarian cancer (OC) have a very low risk of getting OC. Your doctor's correct in that it doesn't make sense to do the CA-125 test. It has too many false positives as well as false negatives so is not useful in diagnosing OC.

Thanks for your response! As we would like 1 more child I am praying the ovary will be saved. Do you think the pain is concerning? The gyn and his rn think its the cyst causing the pain. Im oretty sure its the same one as every us Ive had since my first child has shown it there and always slightly bigger. They've been watch and wait until now since its its over 5cm.

I should add that while the us tech calls it a simple cyst the dr said its most likely a tumor since its persisted so long. Thats what initially scared me! I prefer it being called a cyst lol.
