Hypertension

Hello. I went to the dr and my blood pressure was high. He did not send me home with any medicines he instead gave me Xanax and within 5 minutes my blood pressure went down. He diagnosed me with being a hypochondriac. From blood work it showed I was obese and needed to lose weight. My fear is I am going to have a stroke from HBP says google but do I even have HBP? Or it is the fear and anxiety that’s raising my pressure? Should I be worried? Reading are around 150/90 before anxiety meds and within 5 minutes of takin them it is 138/80 something like that

It's possible that you have what they call "white coat hypertension" and its also possible to have real hypertension. Its disturbing that your dr just assumed you were a hypochondriac and gave you a powerful benzo to treat it.

Drs dont normally put a patient on meds after just one high reading and so I wouldn't necessarily say he is wrong for not immediately putting you on blood pressure medication. If you have a monitor at home,  test your blood pressure once per day to see if you do in fact have hypertension or if your reading at the drs office was elevated due to a touch of anxiety.

If you find that your blood pressure is elevated record the readings, dates and times and bring it to the attention of your dr. If you by chance discover you do indeed have hypertension and its not crazy elevated there are things you can do naturally like life style changes to try and lower it before deciding to try meds. You can change over to a heart healthy diet. Low sodium, fresh fruits, fresh veggies and lean meats. Start an exercise routine if able and if your over weight try and get yourself down to a more healthy weight.

It's possible that you have what they call "white coat hypertension" and its also possible that you have high blood pressure for real...
Most drs dont put a patient on high blood pressure medication with the first high reading but its disturbing that your dr just assumed you are a hypochondriac..
If your blood pressure runs a little high there are some life style changes you can try before jumping on meds, like loosing weight, getting an exercise routine and eating a heart healthy diet (low sodium) fresh fruits, fresh veggies and lean meats.

If you have a blood pressure machine at home try taking a measurement once a day to see if your blood pressure is truly high.
