What is Minimal periventricular white matter ischemic small vessel desease?

I am 54 years old and I went for an MRI due to severe ear pain after having a bilateral arthroscopy to correct a TMJ condition.

Besides the ear pain, I have been experiencing Migraines more often than before the Arthroscopy.

Nothing wrong related to the ear canal was found in the MRI, but Minimal periventricular white matter ischemic small vessel disease was noted in the report.

Is this something I should be concerned with and look for further studies?

Hello and welcome to MedHelp forums. Those are scary words, right? But do know that this is the way medical terminology works.   Minimal periventricular white matter ischemic small vessel disease can be common and becomes more so as we age but  also can be caused by other reasons such as mini strokes and MS.  Ischemic disease in the term may mean a blockage of some sort.   So, it absolutely warrants follow up with your doctor to discuss knowing if can be a normal process of your aging rather than anything serious. Your balance could be impacted though so you will want to understand it fully and how it relates to you.  And knowing what your diagnosis means in terms of you personally is really essential.  Please come back and let us know what your doctor says.
