Please help with several wrist pain

I've been a bit dumb this year. Almost two months ago (after a somewhat interesting dream), I woke up to a full ache in my right wrist. It wasn't particularly distracting, just noticeable and when I googled about it then, I saw to leave the condition for a few days and them see a doctor if it persists. Problem was that while it persisted, I got used to it as it was very minor, only noticeable during some overly exerting rotations and ended up leaving the matter as is.
This morning however I woke up with extremely severe pain in the wrist joint closer to where the thumb is. It's been so bad I can't do anything with my right hand currently and I'm getting very worried.

I have no money to see the doctor immediately but I'll be getting funds only till after easter.
I work with my hand, so any major damage to them will effectively strangulate my career. I've tried to elevate the swelling and pain by using ice but it doesn't seem to be working.

I want to ask if this will have permanent effects due to my irresponsibility and also if there's anthing I can do at home for now to help the situation before seeing a doctor.

Please any and all advice will be appreciated.

Hello~I hope that by now it is better, but if not, then maybe see either an osteopath or chiropractor, you may have some little bones in your wrist that are out of alignement, it can happen, especially in people who work on the computer a lot and use the keyboard more than most. The chiro or osteopath will feel the area and possible give it a minor adjustment, they may also take an x-ray first to see what is occurring.

Also, it may not be a bad idea to check into Carpal Tunnel, that can also cause some of the symptoms you are having.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  We are sorry that you are having this difficulty and pain with your wrist.  As Easter is after this weekend, we advise you see a doctor when you can next week. It is hard to say with no additional details what is going on with your wrist.  If you work repetitively with your wrist, you may have an issue that has built over time from that work. What do you do as your profession? Or perhaps you did something recently that aggravated it?  Has anything happened in the last couple of days that could produce some trauma to the wrists?  Or perhaps you slept on it wrong.

If repetitive use of the wrist has lead to this, it could then be inflammation that results in tendonitis.  This is treatable as are most things. Here's an article that may help you narrow down what is going on. https://www.emedicinehealth.com/wrist_pain_symptoms_signs_and_causes/article_em.htm.  Please let us know how things go at the doctor.

To try until then if you can take without issue is ibuprofen, try icing it and mild stretching.  Let us know how you are doing.

Thank you so much for the response. It's gotten a lot better today thankfully, I slept a lot with it elevated on a pillow and just kept ice on it for most of the day.
I'm an architect but I use my hands for either sketching or the very repitive use of a mouse. It's possible slept on it wrong as I didn't have any major pain till today. Before that I unfortunately can't remember much of what might have aggravated it to this point.

If it's related to the work use of my hands however is there anything I could do to prevent this from happening again?  (I'm going over to read the article though).

Once again thank you for the reply and happy easter.
