Spasms from Methadone

I am on 35mg of Methadone a day and about level out at 40mg.  However, I get muscle spasms all the time and they are annoying.  I also get dizzyness a lot as if I'm going to pass out.  Could this be from the methadone?  Most of the spasms that I have heard of are only relating to withdrawals.  At night when I wake up from sleeping and go to sit on the side of the bed and end up dozing back off I get like an electrical shock that jolts me awake suddenly!  It's kind of scary actually.  The other spasms are less shocking, and mostly happen when I go to lay down to take a nap or sleep.  I came onto to the Methadone to get off of the Opium Tincture that I was doing.  I was still doing 2ml here and then 2 ml there while on the Methadone; could that be what has been causing the above side effects?  Grant you I have since stopped taking the Opium all together but it hasn't been long enough for me to actually be able to tell yet.  It's either that combination whcih is my own fault, or the Methadone itself.  Just wanted to know if anyone out there has experienced these spasms like this either from the Methadone itself or by the combination of that and other drugs.  Now I also take Effexor (anti-deppressant) and Seroquel to help me sleep.  Could that along with the Methdaone be causing it as I read somewhere than sometimes Methadone can interact with other medications.

I also have these spasms. They are a side effect of opiates. From all that I've read and after speaking to my doctor, it is definitely the methadone. They are called myclonic jerks and are a symtom and not the illness itself. There is actually a scientific study that associated these with long term opiate use. I'm going back to the doctor regarding these and other methadone related issues I'm having. I'm actually switching to suboxone. I'm taking my last dose of methadone tomorrow and will induce on suboxone Monday, today is Thursday. My primary thinks switching is a good idea and so do I. I took suboxone on the street and never had issues like I do with methadone. The jerks are very scary at times and now due to the weight gain from the methadone, I've developed sleep apnea, which is causing me to wake up gasping for air. 30% of methadone patients develop sleep apnea. So not only do I have these crazy jerks but now I wake up gasping due to lack of breathing correctly. Hope this helps. I know it did me, knowing I wasn't alone and all. Good luck!

I thought I was the only one with jerks and also the gasping for air when I get up it feels like I’ve held my breath for mins and then gasp for air I told my doctor she just gives me an inhaler to take before bed it helped some but that’s about it. Methadone is definitely scary thats for sure.. not mention the body spams eye twitching bone and muscle pain constantly it’s devil that’s for sure or feels like it...

hi,i am only on methadone, and I've had this problem as well for over a year now. Ive been on methadone for 3 years now,i take zero other drugs of any kind,no alcohol or anything. If i start to feel sleepy,il get hard, jolts, like insane hard jolts to where i can just fling/throw my arm across myself outta nowhere. As for the electrical jolt when almost having fallen asleep,i use to have that a lot of the time, but no really anymore, just the intense spasms when feeling sleepy, especially during the day i find, because i split my dose, 60ml in morning, and 60mls at night,so when my morning dose really really kicks in around 1-3pm i start to get sleepy, and man I've literally thrown things across the room, because if its in my hand and i have a jolt, its gone.I have been searching for others with the same problem and you are the only other one I've found.

I have been on methadone for 2 yrs and 3 months now and I get the same jerks in my body.. I also get the electrical feeling as well... i cant even let my daughter lay on me anymore cause one time she did I twitched so hard it threw her off my chest and down to my knees.. and if I'm sitting up talking with someone I will jerk and open my eyes and be in a panic attack cause k just felt like I was being pushed off a cliff or something.. both these things are very scary for me.. I asked the nurse at my clinic and she said it's not a side effect of methadone.. I also have alot of memory loss problemz.. ne one else with that problem?
I have the exact same thing everyday and im on 70mg.

I take Effexor and I've taken soma recently for back pain.  I have noticed a spasm happening frequently.  It's really scary....  Maybe it is the Effexor.  How much are you on?
