Definetely correct, but is not a heart disease. It happened to me,I went to the specilist doctor who said there is nothing wrong with my heart, then kept asking and as you said, thought I am mad or something must be terribly wrong. Then went to a GP who said itappears that the digestive centre and the cardiac centre are very close to each other on the brain and when the digestive centre gets stimulated the cardiac centre gets stimulated which increases the frequency of the heart beats. She prescribed Peptac and recommended to eat small amounts of food and often. And it worked, I am now chosing what I can eat and try to avoid eating 4 hours before i go to bed. Good luck.
You are darn right!
Gas and positional changes can make the vagus nerve jumpy and toss you in to atrial fibrillation (in my case).
This vagal stuff is apparently new to some docs. Tell him he's behind on his readings of the literature.
I often get extra beats or flutters when I have a lot of gas, especially in the upper abdomen. I can feel the gas moving and the flutter at about the same time. Sort of takes my breath for a moment. I am trying to eleminate gas producing foods and eat smaller meals. I am not a pill taker so can't really recomend anything. The doctor isn't in my skin so how would he possibly know what I feel and I don't believe that the same thing happens over and over without some connection. I have read a lot of comments concerning this same thing.
I have similar symptoms. Except I fell like a pound in my chest, my head starts to feel fuzzy, palpitations start then I feel the urge to have a bowel movement, sometimes. Other times I just get indigestion and burping, with the palpitations. My doctor claims she never heard of those symptoms combined. I did some reading and feel that it may be a vagus nerve disorder. The vagus nerve controls all those bodily functions. I've had no help from anyone else, thanks for verifing that I'm not crazy.
i ahae a gas and pvc problem but I also have a large hiatal hernia which pushes against my heart. I was put on amiodarone for the heart skips - 2400 in my last 24-hour Holter - and have been told that my prospects are ok. The connection is new to me, however. I will try the non-gassy food route. Thank you-
I think it is generally acknowledged by most MD/Cardios nowadays that digestive stomach problems can trigger PVCs, PACs and tachycardia as it has been demostrated by a number of patients , however there are still quite a few doctors who are unfamiliar with this info, but don't dismiss it the possibility , then there are those that are familiar with the finding who continually dismiss this connection regardless.
Unfortunately, I am not aware of this happening in anyone else, but I wouldn't discount your complaints as false. Obviusly, you know what you are feeling. What does your heart rate go up to when your stomach is filled with gas. One thing to consider is to wear a Holter monitor and record your heart rate when you have lots of stomach gas just to get an idea of what happens to your rhythm. Obviously, avoiding stomach gas would make you experience this less frequently, but I thing going after the diagnosis with a monitor would not be a bad idea.
I have experienced the heart palpitations also and received a normal EKG, Echocardiogram, and Holter monitor. I have not experienced them in the last 6 months, until a few days ago. I noticed that my stomach is filled with gas, and when ever I feel the paliptations I have to move the bowels. I don't feel any other symptoms, my heart rate remains normal. Its just the discomfort of the palipations and the worry that something else is wrong. I often thought that gas and palipitations had something in common and up until now I've been unsuccessful at finding a website that addresses this. I feel better after finding this blog to see that others have shared the same symptoms and have made the association as I did. So now I'm eliminating certain foods to see if certain foods trigger these symptoms. Any further information you can provide will help a great deal. Thank you.
Hi Robert,I have been having gas&futters also.It has gotten worse since i had my upper gi and gallbladder removed. It really scares you.I have also had a full stress test done, and the heart dr.says it is not my heart, but it really feels like it is.also i sometimes belch up food particles.I have found that i better not drink hot cocoa.I just don't know what else to do.My medical bills are so high.I feel bad a lot of the time, and it takes a toll on you because you worry about it,and can't get any answers..before i had gallbladder removed i was spitting up white foam, also for a time after.that has gotten better, but the gas and flutters continue..hope we all get answers soon..yvonne_ la.
I thought that I was the only one with these symptons. If I overeat my heart rate will go up and I will have palpatations and then I get scared and have a panic attack which makes it worse.

what is you heart rate when this happens, or is it just a real quick jolt?
My heart rate goes high after eating fatty meals. It rarely happens if I eat lightly or eat low fat meals.
