Sleeping Pills
Hi All,
I would like to get some feed back on sleeping pills. I know many of us take them on tx. My husband has been going through his second round of Hodgkins, as some of you already know. He has been given Ambien at night to sleep, only every morning he has headaches and thinks it might be the Ambien. What or other sleeping pills that some of you are taking that works good and not many sides to it. He has enough going on right now and feeling crappy enough with out another side from his sleeping pills. So, if I could get some feed back on the different kinds from people who are actually on the meds, my husband can maybe give a suggestion to his doctor. He will be leaving this hospital late this afternoon after a 5 day stay of intravenous Chemo. He is going to ask the doctor to switch his Ambien, but I would like some feed back from someone actually taking the meds before suggesting something else. I am leaving work early to get things ready for him to return home tonight. So, I will check for responces from my house before I go to get him.

hi, first, healthy vibes to you both...anyway, i've said this before, Ambien does weird things to me too, first off it gives me a hangover even with the smallest amount....doesn't make me stay asleep for shite...and I feel strange the next day (well, strange for me:) anyway, if Im really having a bad time sleeping and go for a few days, I take a portion of a tranquilizer pill, usually Lorazepam (a generic for Ativan) it's supposed to be the best on the ole liver (least that's what it says on the lit) and have the fewest drug interactions with other drugs...here's some info on it..

this way I'm relaxed into sleep, that with my soft music or sleep hypnosis tapes, a little protein and carbs just before bed, (or a little magazine reading as well) and I swear by this stuff called Badger, you can get it at most health food stores, I get it at Vitamin Shoppe, it's a sleep balm that you rub on your wrists and below the neck, it's aromatherapy, I love this stuff...this will usually do the trick for me, and I'm not hung over or anything, like some sleeping pills will do...I certainly don't take them all the time, as I don't want to develop and dependence, but it's good in a pinch...be well...

i had recently suffered many weeks of sleepless nights due to medications. doc's finally prescribed Restoril several days ago. i have had this medication before about 5 years ago for sleep difficulties. as for now, i finally can sleep through the night. feel a little grogy if i don't allow enough hours sleep, but it does the job. no nocturnal food foraging. hoping i don't have to use this nightly though.
frequent headaches come from Riba meds i think.

I was given Restoril for sleep while I was on treatment. I didn't use it much but, when I did, I wasn't all groggy in the morning and I didn't have headaches. I was pleased with its effects.

I know, I thought I was losing it for awhile, I kept telling my hubby someone is coming in here and stealing food,lmao..He would look at me funny, my daughter was up visiting and she slept on the couch which is in direct route to refridge....We had cookies,fudge etc. and she told me the following morning , mom you eat everything in the middle of the night!..what? I ate almost all the fudge and of course cookie crumbs were found in the bed along with a chocolate stain on pjs..guilty as charged..I also carry on conversations and remeber absolutely nothing I talked about...I'll ask why didn;t you call me last night? In reply, I did! we talked for awhile don't you remember? Oh yes, I reply clueless...ugh!!!

LOL! These stories keep getting better! Empty pizza box and crumbs in the bed! I would get creative and make these concoctions that just weren't right! The next day I'd find the mess on the counter and what all I had drug out of the pantry and fridge and get nauseous looking at it all!:)
You are so funny! Keep those cookies close to avoid an accident! I would sometimes answer the phone while sound asleep from the ambien and talk like I was a drooling drunk! No one could understand me. It was so embarrassing the next day to say Oh, you called last night? and then get a report on how I sounded.
I'm glad you're here, I have a question. I have a really hard time with my nurse practioner, I have to go thru the nurse for everything and the nurse has been out sick 1/2 the week. I don't have a 12 week pcr scheduled, and today is the 12th shot. I have a lab slip for next wed, will that be close enough? I had a 4 week <50 und lab and at 5 weeks heptimax <5 und. Is it going to hurt to wait till next week for another pcr?

I took Ambien when it first came out, and one morning I woke up to the Ice cream container and spoon in the bathroom sink. I never even ate it, then found a bowl in the bed, and had no idea....
The phone rang and I answered the remote. Went to feed the dog, and gave her coffee in her bowl.. she didnt like that at all. it was all stuck to her nose as she sneezed at me....
I am on Lunesta now.. I dream sweet dreams and sleep all night..

ladybug you made me laugh..I thought perhaps I was the only one suffering from bizzaro world new disorder, sleep eating..I don't even share with the pups which is a no no..I take lunesta tastes like the butterfly it advertises..literally, my hubby the other night asked where the left over pizza was..there were 3 slices!! I stated I didn't know lol but the empty box was in the fridge and crumbs in the bed again...sheesh...hope I don't get in the car and decide to get take out lol;)
lunesta works well , I am not groggy in am and no headaches for me. There is the risk of sleep eating, I was afraid to tell my dr. about it! all sleep meds carry risks, best wishes:)shelly

It's bizarre stuff! I tell you I can watch a complete tv show an hour after I take one and have NO recollection the next day AT ALL.
I Started to tivo everything because if I start to watch it my brain seems to click on and I go oh...yeah...I remember this.
STRONG medicine - no doubt. It should just make us sleep as hard! :)

That ambien is strong stuff! I would start eating when I should have been in bed sleeping! I've heard of temporary amnesia from it and the eating thing is a side effect of the ambien too. I would actually wake up with a mouthful of oreos in my mouth and the bag on my lap! What a disgusting taste that is! Lucky I didn't choke to death!

Ambien does carry a side effect of headache but with all the meds he's been given, how can he tell for sure what's causing it? I use to take ambien, but it's so strong. I use clonazepam .5 mg at night before bedtime if I feel restless and not sleepy. I don't know if that would be strong enough for your husband, but talk to his dr. Clonazepam is also used for anxiety and seizures too I think.
Take care of yourself, too! How are you feeling? How's your husband doing with his treatment? I saw an 84 yr. old lady for physical therapy this week because she had a knee replacement. She also has multiple sclerosis and non-hodkins lymphoma! She's amazing, does everything for herself, won't let me help her with her shoes or anyhting. I ended up telling her about you and your husband. You'd think you and I were next door neighbors! She said to tell you he can beat the lymphoma, and I believe her!

She also has multiple sclerosis and non-hodkins lymphoma! She's amazing, does everything for herself, won't let me help her with her shoes or anyhting. I ended up telling her about you and your husband. You'd think you and I were next door neighbors! She said to tell you he can beat the lymphoma, and I believe her!

I get headaches in the morning and finally realized it wasn't the pills - instead it's the bizarre ways I sit up and lean on my elbows and all sorts of stuff during the night. I could say pretty much that I almost sleep walk on this stuff but I don't get out of bed.
I find out that I've been watching tv, eating cookies - all sorts of stuff. One night I came to in the WIERDEST position - no wonder I had headaches!
But at least I get a little sleep and since I've been aware of it I seem to have done it less.
I hope you get a good answer. Ambien is some bizarre medication isn't it.
