bilateral hydrosalpinges or ovarian cysts

Hi,  I had a hysterectomy in May of 2007 but I still have my ovaries, fallopian tubes and cervix.  I had a CT scan for pelvic pain  recently and the report read that I had multiple cysts on both ovaries.  My GYN then did a vaginal ultrasound and it showed the same thing.  He put me on a course of Femcon for two months and then repeated the vaginal ultrasound and it showed cysts on both ovaries and possible salpinge?  He referred me to a collegue of his who is a "specialist" on interpreting ultrasounds and he did a vaginal ultrasound and also one on top of my stomach.  He concluded that my ovaries were normal size but that I had bilateral hydrosalpinges...fluid filled fallopian tubes.  He thought that the previous 3 ultrasounds were being misready as cysts when it was fluid filled tubes?  Is that possible that all three tests were misinterpreted? My other question is this...how could a CT scan and two vaginal ultrasounds be read as cysts and possible salpings and the last GYN said bilateral hydrosalpinges with probably no cysts or at least the ovaries were "normal size"?  He said that I could have them drained but that they would probably fill up again...have the tubes removed but that I might experience menopause earlier due to the removal of the tubes which might kill off the ovaries or I could deal with it until menopause???  I feel helpless as to what to do?  What in your opinion would be my next course of action?  Should I go ahead and have the tubes and ovaries removed or just the tubes or nothing at all and deal with the pain and pressure for years until menopause??

Hi There
Sometimes it is difficult to separate fluid in the fallopian tube from a fluid filled cyst of the ovary. Both those structures lie very closely together. It could be a consequence of your hysterectomy. If you are having pain, it may make sense to go back laparoscopically and remove the tubes and ovaries
best wishes

Thank you so much for your input...I will give it a great amount of thought.  I was wondering though how does the fluid get into the tube if both ends are closed and could I besides having the tube thing could I also have cysts on my ovaries?  Do you think that if I have the ovaries and tubes taken out that I should also have my cervix out?  Before the hysterectomy my last three paps have come up abnormal squamish cells?

Hi, thanks for commenting on my problem.  I wish you lots of luck with yours.  I have never had a tubal but I did have scarring of my tubes back in the day and had a hystiosalpingogram (not sure of the spelling), to try and open my tubes with no luck...then last May with the Hysterectomy (because of fibroids) they ties the other end of the tubes once they take the uterus out. I am wondering if both ends of my tubes are closed...how does the fluid get in there?  the tech also said that one of my tubes was also kinked, or bent over...soemthing like that ...I can't remember exactly what was the terminology that he used.  I go Monday to my regular GYN to find out what the next step is? Did your doctor ever mention surgery to you for your tubes?

Thanks again

hi just wanted to let you know i had similar expereience.  had tvus that said 4-5 cm complex cyst near uterus and left ovary but not appearing to be attached to either.  was then sent for ct scan which said 4 cm complex cyst appearing to come from  left ovary.  when rechecked by tvus 3 weeks later at gyno office her tech said i don't see a cyst your ovaries are completely normal..your tube is filled with fluid which is common with women who have had tubals.  i am 47 and still menstruate quite regularly.  had another tvus last week (it has been 2 months) doc wants to see if all is stable...same tech showed me normal ovaries and a hydrosalpinx on left tube...she said alot of times it appears as a large cyst...since she does gyno ultrasounds only., i trust her knowledge.  she showed me the shape and said "this is classic tube" then typed hydrosalpinx.  i will see the doc monday but if all is stable she said i could leave it and she would check it in 4 months...so yes it is possible and i have pain and pressure as well especially before period and during ovulation.
