Thanks for your inputs "babyalive". I am very hopeful this cycle and reading all of your comments makes me feel reconfirmed taht all seems to be right.
Whats is "bded"? Well we had intercourse Thursday night and IUI Sat morning. So we have a gap of Friday (but that's the instructions I was given by RE)...hope I am still covered.
I am 31 BTW.

Hi GS,

Well, I would say your dr. is right.  O happens 12 - 48 hrs after LH surge. But, most likely and typically about 36 hrs.  So, if your true surge was Friday am, then sometime today that egg will drop.  If you think it dropped last night, you're still good.  You bded, one day had your IUI the other day.  You've got it covered. Fresh Sperm lives about 3 days, the egg lives about 12 - 24 hrs as well.  (The younger you are the longer the egg lives -not sure how old you are.)  Anyhow, the timing sounds perfect!  With a follicle that size, how can the little guys miss it!  Good luck.

Thanks again, Heather. I had my IUI this morning (Sat)....sperms were great according to them - 35.8. She said I was great too after the IUI...dont know what that means. haha!
I had cramping Friday evening/night on the side of my follicle.....Was that supposed to mean I ovulated even before IUI? The doc said that the cramping happens bevause follicle grows bigger and bigger on lh sugre before bursting. Accordingl to her I would ovulate today sometime.
They did not do US...so I do not know the status of the follicle.
Any comments?

Well, let's see...you said you had a slight surge last night and a definite surge this morning, right? When you say "slight surge" do you mean there was a test line there, but it was lighter than the control line? Because if so, that would be considered negative. It's not positive until the line is as dark or darker than the control line.

If so, you had your first positive OPK this morning, so tomorrow morning (24 hours after) and Sunday morning (48 hours after) sounds pretty good :-) They'll probably do an ultrasound after the IUI tomorrow to see if the egg is still there. If not, you might not need to come back in on Sunday, but if it's still there, they probably want you to come back in for a second IUI.

Best of luck!

Hello Heather,
Thanks for the info. I just spoke to the nurse today after the surge last night (Thursday night). She has asked me go for IUI tomorrow morning and day after (Sat and Sun). Will it be too later by then or it is OK?

Hi G_S! Once you detect your surge, you should be ovulating within the next 48 hours...most women ovulate about 24-36 hours after first detecting the surge. The egg can live between 12 and 24 hours. Hope that helps!

Good luck over the next couple of days :-)

Right before u ovulate, there is the surge in LH hormone...that can be detected by OTC ovulation Kits...it basically tell you that you will ovulate soon

?, sorry I'm still learning here! How do you know when you are having a surge?
I just got my husbands semen analysis back today and they said that he has low motility and he referred me out to a speacilist for IUI. While I'm waiting to get in to see the speacialist, I asked if I could do a round of Clomid this month and try on our own just for hahas while we wait. So I start Clomid tonight, go in on the 11th for ultrasound to check for folicle testing...so what is the LH surge you are talking about?

thanks!

I got a LH surge...yayy!! My  bbt also dropped a bit..... finally the egg will come out of the 32 mm follicle. I actully got a slight surge last night and complete one this morning. Had intercourse last night. When exaclty does the egg come out after the suge (that's call the ovulation...right?). Then how much time does it have to fertilize? What is the best time to have relations?

Well, my doctor said everything is hunky. He however said that IUI would not be done this time and neither could I take the ovidrel injections (HCG). I wonder why .....

I found this info in a study on IVF:

"...the maximum preovulatory diameter can range from 19 to 24 mm. However, the largest diameter in these cases estimated by Fossum et al. ranged between 22 and 31 mm."

So I guess they had women with 31 mm follicles in that study.

I have to admit, I've never heard of a follicle that big before...I think they're usually in the low 20s right before O...but I'm no expert :-) What did your doctor say when you had the ultrasound?

Thanks for your response Heather. I hope so too. However, was wondering if you know the optimum size of follicle before ovulation, since I have no LH surge yet? Can this be a cyst?

Oh wow! That's really big! Hopefully that means there's a "super egg" in there, ready for fertilization and implantation :-)
