Genital Skin Problem

I am a 21 year old male. My lower penis area and upper scrotum area have become blackish in color. Often, my scrotum becomes very hard (and squeezed).  The whole area looks abraded. I also get itchy feeling there 1-2 times in a day. Whenever i scratch my scrotum, tiny blackish-brownish particles fall off it.
I clean my genitals daily. Also, i have never had sex.

Do i have some disease ? Please tell me how to bring my genital skin back to normal.
Is it safe to indulge in sexual intercourse in this condition ? Will the girl catch this 'disease' ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes. Given that you have been properly assessed by your doctor and infection has been ruled out ,then there is no contraindication to sexual activity.

To be on the safe side , always practice safe and protected sex until your response to the medication has been assessed.

Hi Vanessa

You mentioned that " As an underlying infectious process has been ruled out by your physician then there is no contraindication for any sexual activity ".

Does it mean that its safe to have sex (For both me and girl) ? Or does it mean otherwise ?

Thanks.

Hi,

The diagnosis is most likely due to an underlying hypersensitivity or inflammatory reaction that initiates an itch scratch cycle leading to the hyperkeratoses which may lead to darkening of the skin  .A dermatitis (xerotic or irritant type) which may be caused by  repeated contact with possible irritants like creams ,lotions, and clothing may have been the primary cause. As an underlying infectious process has been ruled out by your physician then there is no contraindication for any sexual activity.

Follw your physician's advice and if the symptoms persist after using the medications do consult your physician.

Hi

Well, today i visited a dermatologist. He reviewed the affected area. He says it is not because of previous infection. The discoloration is due to itching. He has told me not to itch it as it would aggravate the condition. Also, it may thicken the skin. He said that its not a disease. According to him, my scrotal skin is dry. But he did not give me the reason for this. He has prescribed me an ointment for Dry Hyperkeratotic dermatoses ( Lobate-S : Clobetasol Propionate with Moisturising Factors And Salicylic Acid Ointemnt ) and a tablet (Alorti 10 mg).
Also he has adviced me to apply oil / moisturiser between by buttocks to avoid itching. He says the buttock itching is due to extra hair b/w them ( Which is rubbing against my buttocks).

Now that it is confirmed that its not a disease, is it safe to have sex ?

Thanks.

Hi,

This sounds like a fungal infection. You had a history of fungal infection before. It is possible that the scrotal area has been infected. Have this thoroughly assessed by a dermatologist. Analysis of skin scrapings may be able to help.

Avoid sharing any towels and yes this can be contagious. So refrain from any sexual activity for the moment until you have been thoroughly assessed.

Start wearing underpants of cool and light material. Keep the area dry and clean aways.Wash the area with a mild and bland soap only.

Keep us posted regarding your physician's advice.

Firstly, thanks for taking my query......
Well, here are the answers to your questions regarding my problem :

I have been experiencing itchiness (which is not intense; also its frequency is just 1-2 times a day) for quite a long time - many months.....same goes for discoloration, although i am not clear whether it occurred with itchiness or not. But i think the discoloration was there before itching started. I have noticed some small light black colored spots on my lower scrotum. Previously, there have been some tiny lesions also, but now they are not visible. Now, my scrotum skin has become very rough in texture. There are no bumps or lumps on affected area. But there are tiny cavities-may be due to hair. Some time back, i had a burning feeling there. It was as if some one was pinching it with a pin. But now its no more. Maybe it was a result of shaving the pubic hair.
I have not applied any medicine for itchiness.

One more thing- i had some fungal infection around my pubic area (not on penis). There was intense itching at that time, also it caused blackening of skin. But it is now over. (I had gone to a dermatologist). But i do have itchy (more intense than the other one) feeling between by buttocks.

i hope i have fully answered all your questions. Looking forward to your reply....

Thanks.

Hi,

I suggest that you have a dermatologic consult done. You have mentioned of discoloration in the area. I just have a few questions:

For how long have you experienced the itchiness in the area?

Have you applied any medications to relieve the itchiness?

When have you noted the discoloration? Did this occur with the itchiness or has it developed gradually?

Any other lesions in the area? Any bumps or lumps?

I shall be waiting for your answers.
